Terrell Suggs is great!
November 2nd 2011 20:32
This article in the Baltimore Sun shows the best of Ravens LB Terrell Suggs.
Of the quotes: "Heinz Field is his Madison Square Garden." The Ravens are "the Enemy of the State." He says that he "loves the welcoming [he gets] with the No 1's." The best: "Like I said, there is the Super Bowl, and then there is Ravens-Steelers."
He also begs Hines Ward to play.
This tells me several things, besides the fact that Suggs is actually a terrific quote machine...he's completely correct. It tells me that the Ravens do circle this game on the calendar just like the Steelers do, and that it might mean more in the locker room than any other win or loss put together. Two times in a row the Ravens have been beaten by Pittsburgh in the playoffs. That's fuel for any fire. And it's a vastly entertaining rivalry, because for once both sides tend to drop the "footballisms" and speak a little more truthfully. There is equal parts hatred and grudging respect. They've earned it, and taken it.
The Steelers are still growling about how the Ravens celebrated on them in week 1. They also recognize that they were smacked around, a very rare occurrence. They will be ready, meaning that this game will rise up to its usual level of extremely physical play. It's always in the top 3 of most physical games every single year, and this will not be an exception.
Anyway, I hope T. Suggs keeps on talking. I hope he's as entertaining in the late-week interviews as he was in this one. I also hope that he gets blocked on Sunday night, but as he discussed in his interview...that's rare.
