Terminator

You really have to feel for Christian Bale don't you.
There he is, the top of his game, several blockbusters behind him and then wham!
He has to play against Sam Worthington in Terminator Salvation.
Ouch. Now Christian's not a bad actor by any means. Handsome, fit and strong screen persona if a wee bit inexpressive and he's got the hero gig.
The along comes Sam and blows him off the screen. There's a huge ECU of both of them as they go face to face in a big macho bloke fest.
Sam wins hands down. He's not only stronger he's also shows depth of character which is something Christian as Connor lacks.
Possibly it's a flaw of the script and direction but for the life of me I can't understand (Plot spoilers here) why the resistance stands down from the attack on his orders.
Without the charisma to be a leader its incongruous.
Probably like the rest of the film which seems to be an overly long pop clip without the band.
Nice set pieces but you must have the back story and script in place.
Hey, when Sam's character appears in Vegas and is picked up by the kids and he didn't know what the machines were didn't any one have any curiosity about who he was and where he came from? Apparently not.
It goes rapidly downhill from there losing any credence that had been built up by the earlier franchises.
In short: No salvation here. 2 beers out of 5
