TeeVee: The Amazing Race (11/1)
November 2nd 2009 19:09
This will be a short recap folks. . .I found this episode fairly depressing actually. I guess I consider myself somewhat of a feminist (not the burn my bra, non-shaving kind, but pro-strong female role model-y), and to watch the women left on the show completely loose it has me fairly upset. . .
The teams left Dubai and headed off to Amsterdam. . .The show put them all on an equal playing field since they all got on the same flight. And while they were waiting in the airport Sam & Dan came out of the closet and were embraced with a few light-hearted jokes about matching swimsuits.
When the teams reached Amsterdam they had to get their first clue at a statue. Most of the teams got there at the same time, except for Brian & Ericka who had trouble starting their car. They then headed off to the tallest building, in which one member had to climb the winding stairs and count the bells. What surprised me was that Meghan & Cheyne paired up with Sam & Dan (who left Maria & Tiffany in their dust). Matt was able to count quickly and got it right, followed by Meghan and Sam, who worked together to count the bells and got it right with an answer of 62. As Sam came down the stairs he told Tiffany the answer so all she had to do was find the bell man and Flight Time also got it right on the first try. Which left of course, Ericka who had to count several times, with a meltdown in the middle before she finally got it right.
The next part of the race had the teams dressing up in local garb and either dancing or playing farmer's golf. Sam & Dan and Meghan & Cheyne were off to do farmer's golf, while Matt & Gary tried dancing first. Sam & Dan flew through the course, whle Meghan & Cheyne faltered a bit. Matt realized he would have to eat fish after dancing, so they switch over to farmer's golf too, which they finished after a few tries. The Globetrotters hilariously chose to do the dancing, which I found to be the best part of the episode.
On the downside, we had to watch the poor poker players go back and forth from failing to ring the dang bell over at the dance challenge and failing over and over again at the golf challenge. Which is the only reason why Brian & Ericka were able to pull through on this challenge, after walking for what seemed like forever in clogs, to making quick time of the dance challenge, to having to listen to Ericka's blabbering through the 30-minute penalty. . .It just goes to show, even when you think you have no shot to stay in the race. . .you ALWAYS have a shot to stay in the race.
I'm hoping next week's hay challenge lives up to the hype. I didn't watch the season where they had this challenge previously, and the rumor that it took a team 8-hours before they had to be told to quit gives me hope for a great episode next week.
