on My Lemon Detox Experiment

I had terrible headaches on the lemon detox and I don't consume any caffeine. For some people caffeine withdrawals could definitely contribute to the headaches but headaches are a very common side effect of detox diets. Apparently they're caused from when the toxins circulate and leave the body so that's why a lot of people feel generally unwell too, especially during first few days of the detox. But then some people feel great on it with heaps of energy - I envy those people! I felt like crap whilst on it but during the last few days of it and after completing it I looked and felt great. With some things, it has to get worse before it gets better I guess but the results are usually worth it and I want to do it again before our wedding in February 09 - except this time I'm not telling my family because they think I'm crazy not eating for 7 days and all they do is hassle me to eat something!

Bonnie, I experienced the same as you with the whole "Loo" thing, I guess it's normal as all we're consuming is liquid? It also caused me terrible stomach cramps! But once I'd been to the loo a couple of times I felt ok.

Apparently it is necessary to do at least one of them to rid your body of the toxins and rubbish which result from the detox. If you don't, the toxins can circulate through your body and make you really sick. I didn't actually do the saltwater, just the senna tea and I had one cup of it at night before I went to bed. I sweetened it with the tree syrup to make it (slightly) more bearable. I don't know (on average) how long it takes to work but I would take it about 11pm and then be woken about 6am by stomach cramps and would need to do regular trips to the loo over the next hour or so - not fun and I actually found it quite painful with the cramps etc but it's essential to get the nasties out. If you had it during the day and were up and about, it might take a shorter amount of time to work. Either way, make sure that between having the tea/salt water and going to the loo, you're not travelling on public transport or something! Being at work while that's happening wouldn't be much fun either. Ohh, the things we do! All worth it though

Hey all you de-toxers! How is everyone going?

Day 2 for me- Doing ok, although I was awoken this morning by stomach cramps which resulted in me being stuck to the loo for about 15 minutes - I guess that cleanout tea is doing it's job! The cramps were pretty intense though, not sure if that's one of the side effects of this detox or not but feel ok after going to the loo. Also got a pretty yucky taste in my mouth which is normal apparently, I've been brushing my teeth 3 times a day for that reason as well as I'm scared all the acid from the lemons will damage my teeth. I didn't do this for the purpose of weight loss but I have lost about a kilo so far.

Apart from that, I'm a little more tired and cranky than usual and I can't say that I'm not hungry because I'd be lying! I'd kill to sink my teeth into a sandwich, burger, bowl of pasta - even a bowl of steamed vegies! But I'm not feeling sick so that's a good thing. Every time I'm really hungry I just have another cup of the lemon drink. Hopefully after today the hunger will subside a little, here's hoping!

My fiancee only wants me to do it for 7 days instead of 10 as we have our engagement party the weekend after I finish this detox and he doesn't want me to risk being too sick or weak for it (perish the thought!). And the party would fall within the 3 days after the detox when you're not suppsed to eat certain foods or drink any alcohol so maybe it would be safer to stick with the 7 days, especially since it's the first time I've ever done a diet of any descripiton let alone a detox.

So now it's 5 days to go! Yay!

How is everyone else going?

Awesome! I feel better already just knowing that someone else is doing this lemon detox too! I tried to con my sister into it who as much as she would love to do her body the favour, reckoned she just couldn't not eat for 10 days, let alone drink some weird lemon/syrup/pepper drink with only salt water and herbal tea as a "change of scenery" to replace it - and my fiancee just thought it was hilarious! Well, I'm determined to show them both, that's for sure! Ok, I'm only half way through my first day of 10 so I hope I'm not getting to cocky too soon but so far so good, I actually don't mind the taste of the drink (it certainly doesn't compete with a cappuccino in the morning or a glass of wine after work or sinking your teeth into something solid) but if you can get your mind set into thinking of the benefits and the end result and enjoy the cleansing, refreshing taste of the drink then I think all us lemon-detoxers will be fine. Being winter, I'm glad it can be heated up so I half trick myself into thinking it's a cup of tea at least! My stomach is making a few strange noises but they say the first day is the worst and then you just feel better more and more each day. I have been looking into doing this for ages as I've got a few recurring "womens health issues" plus just feeling generally run down, tired and "crap" with dull skin, hair and eyes. I thought it was also about time to give my body a break from all those naughty indulgences such as rubbish food and alcohol too - It will be nice to wake up fresh and unhungover this weekend! Anyway, I wish you all luck and hope that's it's not too difficult. Make sure you write about how you're all going! I'll let you know how I'm doing too!
9 and a half days to go....
