Technosexual

You know you're one of "them", a cyber dweller, or a more sexier term for it these days - a "technosexual", when your life depends on your usual dose of a tall skinny latte from Starbucks (caffeine-rush!) whilst logging on simultaneously to MSN Messenger, MySpace and emails - be it on the MacBook, Blackberry or Nokia phone. And all with a flick of the wrist!
It becomes your daily routine, one you just simply can't do without!
The saying "money makes the world go round" these days, would seem redundant as the Internet, in this day and age, does the job just as well. Life as we know it, came to a stand still, when the December '06 earthquake in Taiwan wrecked havoc in the cyber world, causing major disruptions. We find ourselves suddenly without purpose and in dire need of a "quick fix" - sweaty palms, shifty eyes and on the constant lookout for some form of revival of the life-line.
(May there never be another catastrophic reoccurrence as such - all hail the Internet!)
Technosexuals hangout online more than they do with actual social groups. Although, I recall having been told off by a buddy that just because we communicate mostly on MSN Messenger, doesn't mean that we have an actual friendship. Now, that's a little bit contradicting doncha think? If the people that you communicate on a daily basis does not form some version of a friendship, then what are they? And if the Internet has created a realm where we can be true to ourselves and speak our minds (Wasn't that how the blog era started? - Freedom of speech), then surely these people we communicate online with knows your true form, the inner beauty as opposed to the outer vanity.
I say, embrace your MySpace extended network of friends and multiply the number of people on your MSN Messenger contact list. If only shall this allow for quality acquaintances and cyber-friendships to be formed and cherished!
Yet with all it's glory, "with great power comes great responsibility" stands true for the wonders of the Internet. Surely, the Internet has allowed for mass communication and reach to millions in the world, to spread a good cause and raise awareness on issues such as global warming, poverty and even animal cruelty. But with every good, there is always the inevitable dark-side - child pornography, online scams and piracy.
It is only out of one's social responsibility (and a huge guilt conscience!) that would create the cyberworld a better place for everybody - this may sound all very clichéd and honky dory, but we all know it's the gawd damned truth!
