Conversation in the family - by katyzzz

Microsoft Paint, computer literacy and other communications

Art image to get you talking and teaching
A psychedelic little green man, rainbow style

The idea behind this blog is for those with some computer literacy to encourage those with less or no computer skills to acquire some and feel more comfortable with computers. It is also an opportunity for families to get to know each other a little more.

The pictures are an inducement, as everyone likes colour and a new image to look at.

Because the images are so different they help get the social interactions going. It also brings together the generations who can help each other with family problems and create a little harmony.

Everyone loves their children and wants them to progress in life and have a happy home environment.

This is not easy to achieve and many older family members have been left behind and feel isolated by computers.

Family activities creating pleasure and laughter ideally ease some of these problems.

I like doing the images so it gives me pleasure and a new outlet for my creativity.

I hope this post is more successful at explaining what I am trying to do.

I am not trying to send people off to do computer and/or art courses. Most with fairly minimal skills can access Microsoft Paint and use the simple tools available to create something and it gives those who don't even know what a mouse is a chance to learn and gives children a chance to explore and discover and produce something which everyone can talk about.

While all of this is happening it is an escape from household chores and brings the family together to get a chance to know each other a little more.

What each family gets from or gives to these ideas is entirely up to them.

They can also talk about my images and come up with ideas from their own minds, there being no right or wrong answers.

Are we getting to be on the same wavelength or are there other difficulties emerging?

I'd be interested to know.

katyzzz,

I think it's a great idea in relation to the "many older family members have been left behind and feel isolated by computers."

It's a great way of taking away the fear of learning computing ...

I'd almost forgotten how difficult that mouse was to use the first time I ever used one ...

I think kids naturally want to make art, and since they grow up with computers, it's an easy way to get into art.

The only problem is, drawing with a mouse is terrible... especially for kids, who may have developing hand-eye coordination...

You miught want to look into either teaching them some real computer art (ala 3D modelling) or buy a tablet that reads information via a stylus.

Cib, thanks for your comments re kids and art. Naturally any activity has to be age appropriate
and it's about helping one another and staying connected and getting together without strain and
one thing leading to another and the list goes on and on and on......someone may have to help out
with the mouse, it's a group activity.....and the oldies may need similar help but can contribute in
other ways and it's about freeing up the mind, and creating and inventing, not in any way intended to
direct kids into becoming artists, it's just about having fun and exploring the mind and teaching
computer literacy skills even to a disinerested even resistant group and it's about helping families
get on together and sharing their problems and capturing the teens before they're lost to us forever.

Your views on the natural reaction of kids to art, were very targeted and especially helpful.

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, I have been still trying to find my way around the system in
between attending to other things and keeping up production of the art.

Ahmed,

Thanks for sharing with us the more sophisticated approach and demonstrating your superior
computing skills, I'll check in regularly with your website.

It was good to have an upmarket view but this is about sharing and caring and creating and families
and sharing the thinking of the mind by looking at the images, it's also about computer and other literacy
and encouragement and bringing in the oldies in a non-threatening way...it's a means to an end not
an end in itself.

But your comments have been well received and when I get a chance I'll look into those other things
as well but it's not really about creating computer artists and it is about having fun.

You would have liked one of my books, .....Bits Byte Back like BeeBees

Sorry I have been so long getting back to you, I'm still trying to find my way around the system.

Chantel,

What a delightful, care free image you present. Sorry I've been so slow getting back to you,
stay posted, I'd love your views on some of the images: I've been producing one a day but
in between other things it can be hard yakka at times.

Thanks for your bright and charming face and your engaging pose. katyzzz
