Talk to Me Gently
Talk to me gently now that I知 old,
The fire which drives me is getting quite cold.
No longer the heat to force me to strive
I just plod along quietly, glad I知 alive.
Once I encouraged all that zing and that zest
To try, at my trade, to be as good as the best
Memory now tells me I did not really succeed
But my skills were enough to fulfil my own need.
At times I was asked, if I had any to spare
So I gave what I could to the community there.
One of the many who made lives more complete
I joined right in and 奏was a wonderful treat.
I rose to the top, and fell down from the tree
It seems many times that happened to me
Friends caught the pieces, glued them right back
Then helped put me onto the go-upwards track.
I致e been there and done that, so many times
At home and abroad, and in various climes
But fate had a hand in it all, I am sure
And I値l not wander from the track any more.
Life has been kind and I知 allowed to grow old
While some friends rest alone in graves deep and cold
I知 still living the life that comes with each day
And I have no plans about going away.
But fate knows my number, and when it is called
I値l go without murmur, even though I知 appalled
At the thought of dying and not having my say
礎out the powers of Governments being whittled away.
The interference of business, where it has no place
as vanishing services leave hardly a trace .
All countries were built by strong sturdy men
And I suppose they値l get up and do it again.
I shall be in my grave, well, my body will be,
But the spirit that痴 me, will forever be free.
