Sydney Wildlife World

I'm usually in two minds about Wildlife Parks. On the one hand they help to preserve and spearhead the breeding of endangered species, on the other - it's very sad to see once magnificent creatures relegated to the position of 'entertainment' for the masses.
Sydney Wildlife World has spent a lot of time and money developing their facility. The habitats have been painstakingly recreated and the climate control is second to none. One can watch Koalas sleeping atop twenty foot trees and come face to face with a Cassowary. Get as close as you ever will to a King Brown or Taipan and get up close and personal with a Lace Monitor or a Thorny Devil. Check out the Insectarium and spend some time with a redback or bird-eating spider. Peruse a Possum or watch a Wallaby but sooner or later you'll be asking: 'who's watching who?'
You're welcome to take photos in all but the nocturnal enclosures. The great thing about Sydney Wildlife World is that it's open until 10pm which means that you can roll up a little later if you want to catch a better glimpse of the creatures that 'only come out at night'.
Education is the focal point but it's not rammed down your throat. Attendants are around and ready with information on your favourite beastie (often offering the chance of a close encounter if you're game.)
The role of an establishment like this one is to build awareness of the magnificent animals that we often take for granted. In doing this - places like Sydney Wildlife World spread the word that we need to do what we can as individuals to ensure the survival of our native wildlife. If all of us did a little it could mean the difference between life or death for so many of the remarkable and essential species on our planet.
Sydney Wildlife World is located next to the Sydney Aquarium at Darling Harbour.
Sydney Wildlife World is open 9am – 10pm every day of the year (with last ticket sale at 9pm).
