Swept from the Sea story continued & news

January 25th 2007 08:53
Hello everyone

I will carry on with the short story Swept from the Sea then update you on the events of the day.

‘See these wounds here?’ Earl asked her pointing to the long one that cut across his chest.
‘What about it? She asked with a growing uneasiness in the pit
of her stomach.
‘I would hazard a guess that it was made by a weapon very similar to this one’ he told her as he held up the sword once more, examining it more closely.
‘So I would be asking if it’s a good idea for him to be here?’ He added seriously.

‘Why do you think that?’ She replied.

‘He could be dangerous, an escaped lunatic or something’ he carried
on saying.
‘Oh c’mon Earl you don’t think that really do you? She asked him.
‘Well what we do know is that, he is a stranger, carrying a weapon
and has been in some kind of conflict in his past and do you really
want him in your house alone Sarah?’ He replied with genuine
concern showing in his voice.
‘Look I know what you mean but I just don’t think he would be
dangerous’ she replied.
‘Oh and why do you think that?’ He asked in a surprised tone.

‘Well I just don’t think anyone dangerous would wear something like this’ she replied passing over a chain and pendent that the man had worn around his neck.
Earl examined it, ‘Heavy silver’ he said out loud before looking
closely at the pendent. It had an engraving of a flower on one side
with the words ‘with love’ written on the other side.
Just then they heard Becky call out from downstairs, ‘Up here’
Sarah called back.
By the time she had entered the room, they had laid him in the bed
and covered him up with blankets.
‘I have put the other horse in the paddock with Falte, how is he?’ She asked concerned.

‘We think he should be okay, I can just make out his chest rising up
and down with shallow breath’s’ Sarah replied with a weary smile.
‘Shall I make us all a coffee, as I expect after all this excitement, we
most probably need it’ Becky said with a grin.

‘I’d love a cup of Earl Grey’ Sarah replied before adding ‘I’ll just finish up here, then I’ll join you both’.
As Becky left the room and went back downstairs, Earl got up also
but as he went to leave, Sarah said ‘Thank you for your help today
Earl, we couldn’t have done it with out you’.
‘Think nothing of it Sarah, couldn’t let you two girls struggle all
alone and anyway what are friends for’ he replied with a warm smile as he went down stairs .

‘Where have you come from?’ She thought gazing at the man lying in front of her before
joining her friends down stairs. Dusk started to fall outside and
Becky said ‘Well I’d better get going, can you give me a ride Earl?’
‘Of course!’ he replied finishing his second coffee quickly.
‘You’ll give me a call if you get any problems?’ Earl said to Sarah
they passed her at the door.
‘Don’t worry, I will call you if there is a problem’ she replied with a
nod of her head.

After they had gone, she went outside, feeding and settling her
animals down for the night before going back inside and securing the door behind her.
‘C’mon Sasha’ she called out to her dog as she wandered into the
lounge and with that, she jumped onto Sarah’s lap.
‘What a day Sash’ she said with tiredness creeping into her voice, I
could do with a drink she thought, so holding the dog under one arm
she walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of wine, opener and
glass before heading back into the lounge when the flames from the
open log fire was starting to cast flickering shadows upon the walls.

Sarah sat there, sipping from her wine glass as her thoughts
wandered to the events of the day. There was something about the
man that they had found that intrigued her, she knew it was a risk
having him in the house all alone but somehow she felt safe with him.
What it was she had no idea but there was some kind of aura around
him, almost as if she was drawn to him. But putting these thoughts
down to the wine and the warmth of the fire, she quickly fell asleep
with Sasha laying on her lap.
Sarah wasn’t too sure how long she had sleep but awaking with a stiff
neck and it still dark out side, she threw another log onto the fire
embers, watching as sparks drifted upwards as the fames started to
catch once more.

‘C’mon Sash’ she called out to her dog, ‘Let’s go to bed shall we?’
She said opening the door that led up the stairs.
As Sasha ran into her bedroom and leapt onto the bed, Sarah just
opened the door to the guest room, going inside to check on her
patient.
Drawing closer, she could see by the moon light shining through a gap in the curtains that he was still in the same position that they had left him earlier and picking up the cloth that was laying next to the bowl of water, she wiped his brow gently.

It was just then that his eyes flicked open and his hand touched hers,
‘My Lady?’ he asked quietly.
‘It’s okay, you are safe but you need rest, so sleep now’ Sarah replied
softly as she touched his hand with her other one.
He gave a puzzled look for a moment before his eyes closed and he
fell into a deep sleep, his grip loosening from hers as he did so.
She stood there watching him for a few moments, feel quite relieved
as this was a good sign but then she hadn’t really thought about what
was going to happen next. But it was very late and she was feeling
tired so thought it best to deal with that in the morning.

To be continued......................................

You know it's been one of those days today. In Oct/Nov last year I applied for a job vacancy but wasn't successful, so I asked for my details to be left on file in case any other vacancies arose. The other I week I got a call out of the blue asking if I was still interested as there was another vacancy. I said yes and had another interview, bearing in mind this is now the second interview for the same role and my answers were pretty much the same.

Anyway got a letter tonight saying sorry not successful, now this confused me a bit as you would have thought if I didn't make the grade last time, then why get me in again? So just a little bit niggled there but will be following it though.
Oh went for a nice meal tonight at the Mexican Cafe in Litchfield St , Chch. The food was very good although we were large group, we had arrived first but was almost last to finally get our food an hour later, so bit disappointing there but the food was good though.

Other than that not too much happening in the garden city, weather average but hope the weekend will be nice?

Thought for the day 'Put up with second rate service, and people will oblige by giving you just that'
