Resenting life.

July 14th 2008 15:29
I write this as a vent, but also because I know many other mothers feel the same way that I do, even if they are afraid or ashamed to admit it. Today when my husband left for work I found myself jealous that he was able to go. He gets a break from this madness of home life. He gets to go somewhere and does something that makes him feel accomplished. He has other people in his life other than us. And here I sit. A mother who sometimes begs and prays for some time to herself. I would love to go somewhere and accomplish something. Yes, I know deep down that I do work. I work harder than my husband, no doubt about it. But we don't get the thanks that we deserve, or that we need.
Being a mother is the most unselfish act of a woman. Why is it that we get so lost in that, that we forget to be us? Why is it that your own personal dreams and goals in life get put on the back burner? Do you resent that? Come on, you do... at least a little. Then you start feeling guilty for the fact that you do resent it. Some people would love to be mothers and for some reason Mother Nature won't give them that right. Some people lose their children way too early. Thinking of these people make you mad at yourself for resenting motherhood and all that it brings with it. But, I believe it is natural. I think almost all mothers feel that way; they just aren't open about it.
I wanted to be a journalist. I wanted to be an author. I wanted to be a radio personality. I still could be??? Well, no. I never was able to finish college. I want to. I have spoken to my husband about it and he isn't supportive of my dreams. "It just isn't realistic with our lifestyle." He's right, but it is still hard to hear. Yes, I could go and reach for my dreams, but is the gain worth the sacrifices that would come with it? No.
Resentment. I resent that he can do whatever he wants as a career, and I cannot. Resentment. I resent that I supported him through school and I watched him walk across the stage and receive his degree, wondering if I will ever get that chance. Resentment. I resent that he does something every day that makes him feel like something other than a husband and a father. Resentment.
I look back on the life of my mother. Army wife. She was a stay at home mom. She would iron his uniforms, pack his lunch, and keep a hot dinner on the table every night. She raised us. After we all left for college, he moves on. Leaves her with nothing but the furniture. She is in her 50's being a substitute cook in the school system. She is not qualified for anything else; after all... she was just a housewife and a mom. RESENTMENT. She isn't happy.
What do we do to get rid of the resentment? I blog. Nothing comes of it. What did I expect? Maybe some promised income that did seem too good to be true. Maybe someone will see talent. Maybe I could make a difference with someone out there. Blogging may get me heard, but it doesn't help.
I guess I need to take my own advice that I give my kids all the time "Suck it up". I am sure we would all change something in our life. A choice that we made, a path we chose. Those people that say "I wouldn't change a thing in my life because what I chose got me here" Blah, blah BLAH! LIARS! Everyone would change something.
I could be one of those mothers that is a career woman. Why not? Lots of people drop off their kids at daycare every day and go about their life. I can't be that mom. I tried it. Can't do it. I wish I was that person. I really am not sure how moms do that. If they have to, that is one thing - but the ones that do it because they want to. I can't let go.
So, let's see... I am jealous of the husband, would like something of my own, but don't want to not be here for my kids. Sound familiar? I guess this is motherhood. There aren’t answers. "Suck it up MOM!"

Smoking

I have just been through hell and back? Why? Because I witnessed my Aunt, whom is to me a second mother, in the most pain of her life, on a ventilator, fighting for her life as tar was sucked out of her lungs. 38 years of smoking will do that to you. I am sick of smokers saying that smoking only affects them. BULL! We all know about second hand smoke, so I don't need to even get started there. Although I will state that nothing makes this mother more angry then seeing someone smoking in their car, windows up, with children in the backseat.

My whole family was and is affected by my aunt's smoking. We all took shifts at the hospital. We stood over her night and day. We prayed and cried and hurt. Smoking affects everyone you love. Yes, we all have to die of something, but she is 56 years old, if she wasn't a smoker she wouldn't have been in the hospital getting tar sucked out of her lungs while a machine breathed for her. We wouldn't have been through the emotional rollercoaster that it all caused.

I don't understand the power of addiction, and I don't pretend that I do. To me when you are doing something, deliberately, to your body that will, or can, cause your death - why oh why do you do it? Is that nicotine high that important to you? Isn't it selfish of you to think that you are the only one that it affects in a negative manor? Bleach will kill you if you drink it, and you chose not to do that... so why do you smoke when the package itself says what it can do to you?

There have been a few blessings in this journey. After seeing what she did, I am praying my daughter will never take up this habit, and my Aunt has made it through and vows to never again touch another cigarette.

There are patches and now even pills to get you to quit the addiction. So why don't you do it? If you think you are only cheating yourselves, you couldn't be more wrong.

Brooks and Dunn - never done!

July 9th 2008 15:25

Brooks and Dunn have been in the spotlight since they released their first single in 1991 with "Brand New Man". They have won over 43 awards from "Entertainer of the Year" to "Vocal Duo of the Year". They are the duo to catch in the eyes of other country duo teams. Are Big and Rich the next Brooks and Dunn? That's like asking if Kenny Chesney is the next George Strait.
Brooks and Dunn

Brooks and Dunn use to be big NASCAR fans. They were friends with the late Earnhardt (may he rest in peace). Since then they have boycotted NASCAR after many drivers have said that they want to get away from country music and try to be "hipper". Dunn says "I'm over it. I'm through with it until Dale Earnhardt Jr. gets out and clogs at the end of Daytona, square dances or something. Maybe they can all get together and line dance. I'm boycotting. I don't care." Now these boys take country music and all that it stands for very seriously. That is one reason why they are truly loved by their fans.

Their music has been used in many political campaigns as well. They are republican and supported President Bush in his re-election. I wonder what they think of their choice now?

I have searched and searched for new things that I might not know about this famous duo. But, it isn't easy information to find. They have done a wonderful job keeping their private life private. You don't read about them in tabloids - no one is having an affair with their 15 year old nanny. To be in the industry as long as they have, and to be such respected artists by their fans and their peers, speaks volumes.
Brooks and Dunn

I am heading to my first Brooks and Dunn concert on the 25th. I am anxious to see why they have been named "Entertainer of the Year"... are they as entertaining as Kenny? I am ready to find out. There is no doubt that these two will go down in history. There singing is very distinct and they have amazing songwriting ability.

I'll give you more of MY opinion when I see them on the 25th!

Dealing with sickness

July 9th 2008 14:47
I have been away from my blogs for awhile. What started off as a visit back home to WV, ended up being time spent at the hospital with a loved one that we weren't sure was going to make it. This brought up many challenging conversations with my children.

Discrimination - enough already!

June 18th 2008 15:24
I have to admit, I will probably catch a lot of slack for this post, but I am so fed up with the word “discrimination”. People use this word as an excuse, and quite frankly, I for one am sick of it!
lemons

Your skin is a different color, you are a woman instead of a man, you are gay, you have disabilities… okay, have I listed almost every single person reading this post? WE ALL CAN BE DISCRIMINATED against. Why does every person who isn’t white, or who is gay, or who is a woman searching for a career in a man driving field – or vise versa, scream discrimination for everything? That is why they didn’t get that job. That is why they didn’t get the help at the grocery store. That is why someone complained about them. It is always the reason. No, it’s not

Nashville Star, are you watching?

June 18th 2008 14:57
Who’s watching Nashville Star? If your not, I advise that you tune in! It is the American Idol of country music without all the hoopla! There definitely is some real talent on there, and the country fans need to pay attention!
Billy Ray, John Rich, Jewel
The Host and Judges of Nashville Star

This last week when America voted, the best person in the competition was in the bottom two. I really couldn’t believe my eyes. Melissa is a 32 year old, working mother of five, yes five, children. She isn’t your typical country music star. Not a Carrie Underwood look-a- like, but the voice is more than a little amazing. It will blow you away. She has a great stage presence and there isn’t any possible way that she should have been in the bottom two other than the fact that America has lost its freaking mind, or that America is discriminating on this beautiful, full sized woman

The grocery store, a place filled with memories; memories of children screaming because they don’t get what they want, of heading to the checkout and not recognizing half of the items in your cart because Johnny decided to do some side shopping. Ring a bell? You read all of the ‘how to’ information telling you how to save a buck, just to watch it go down the drain. “Only shop the perimeter of the store”, “Only buy what is on your list” – I want to see the person writing this advice… do they live in the 21st century? Do they have 3 children screaming at them 24/7? My guess is NO!
I have read some good advice and tried it out for myself and I want to share my findings with all of you! I also have some valuable websites to share with you that could save you money.

Oprah Goes to Mars

June 13th 2008 13:30
Has Oprah lost her freakin mind? I use to be an Oprah viewer, but I have to say that lately she has gone a little looney. Maybe it is the influence of her good pal Tom Cruise – who you will never convince me doesn’t belong in a looney bin! Oprah has always called herself a Christian, and I respected her for that. I would read the books that are now famous thanks to her book club… but lately the books she has chosen and not worthy of the press they get. They are down right scary!
The book “A New Earth” is so riveting that I wanted to vomit. So riveting that I called my husband in, read him a few lines, and he (who isn’t even a devout Christian) thought it was complete and total nonsense. So riveting that I threw the book in the trash because I don’t want to be responsible for anyone else reading this load of crap.
Oprah had said on a show that she loves this book because her purpose in life is to teach people to think for themselves, and that this book helps them to do that! I call BULLSHIT! She calls it’s “self actualization”; I call it a get rich quick bunch of malarkey. This new age bull takes what we all know and believe about religion and gives it a HORRIBLE spin that pretty much makes the Bible just another book that man wrote – something that is not based on actuality. It even goes as far as to say that there is no heaven or hell. Really? Wow, I guess the descriptions of heaven in the Bible are just made up stories… and the people who have died and came back and described it perfectly are just nut jobs and this Eckard Tolle guy knows the real truth. Maybe we should just call him God from now on and Oprah can be Jesus and all of our problems on this earth will be solved! Can I get an AMEN

Anonymous - alright then! World DoNomination is not what I am seeking, thanks for your insightful, very logical (BAH HA HA) comment.
Chris, I have thought of freelance writing, but not sure my writing is up to par yet. I use to write very well, but have gotten out of practice leading my "Ho Hum" lifestyle of "cooking, cleaning, and watching Oprah" - seeing as how that's all i do being a SAHM and all! Thanks for the compliment and advice Chris!

Ahh.. yes. All I can say is that it WILL get better! My middle child would never eat a thing... now it's "if you don't eat brfst.. you get nothing until lunch. You don't eat lunch... nothing till dinner. You don't eat dinner... nothing else for the rest of the night and NO DESSERT!" Works well for us, but she is also now 5! Good luck!

Some kids are easily entertained - others, not so much. The daughter that I bought the bike for isn't happy unless 100% of my attention is on her. But, no one said parenting was a cake walk! Thanks for reading!
