Ok, you are absolutely hanging for the answer. The winner of the competition, waiting for that big break...You count down the hours and minutes until the email is due. Countless of the amout of time you log on the site and off..

It happens..then the let down..it is not you! Somehow you missed the mark or didn't hit the winning criteria. You feel flat and deflated. Like a tyre that is shredded on the side of the highway after being dragged for a hundred feet or so.

Somehow, you need to get back in touch with yourself. Stop kicking yourself because you didn't win the competition.

Yes, guilty of the above. Yet it really isn't that important winning the competition or not! My response to the outcome is important. through the thinking and images I conjure up in my mind, have a large lot to say how I will go in the future. (Thats a long ramble).

It is like this..imagine a small cheerful monkey sitting on your shoulder. When you are happy and everything is "cruisy", going well, the little fellow is happy. Now when you get angry he does the opposite. The more negative you feed it, the bigger it gets. It turns from a cute monkey, into a full-sized gorilla! If you don't stop the negative train of thought, who know the monstrous monster it could turn into?

My point is..it comes to choice. You can't control a lot in life, you can always choose how you will respond. You can make a simple decision and not realize the huge impact it will have!

Freelance and individual entrepreneurs, consultants and any industry, we all experience this at some stage in our working careers.

Some people take time off to develope new ideas and start new lives. Others add to their already career and go forward.

Our careers are like the pendulum of a huge clock. The pendulum swings up and down, back and forth, time goes on and people come and go.

Learning to choose where you want to go, deciding the kind of life you want to live, be the person you want to be, starts within you.

The Worst Direct Mail Peice Ever?

July 11th 2008 22:47
Hello everyone

How do you feel when you go to the mailbox and get your mail? Do you look forward to the bills, the special letters? How about credit card offers from companies?

There is an interesting discussion going on at Clayton Makepeaces blog regarding a company and their direct mail advert.

Makepeace Total Package

To get a feel for the letter, it is advisable to read the entire post and grab the attached link to a pdf. You will see why it is so hot and controversial.

As to this type of campaign, it may work, it depends on the market audience, You as a individual business owner, would you go for it? I don't think so...

The website for the company involved leaves much to be desired. Have a look see for yourself?

This example and discussion is a great booster for you in your own abilities.

What does blah-blah mean to you? How would you feel if you received something like this?

Please leave your thoughts as I am interested to hear what you have to say...

Looking Fear in the Face - Death

June 12th 2008 08:59
Hello everyone

At some point in life we come to crossroads. We stand in the centre and decide to go east, west, north or south. Choosing a direction can be hard as often there are unknown entities, stepping stones, lessons and situations to be overcome.

I have had to face "death" four times in the last twelve months. My son, husband, mother and now father. Each time I have chosen to move ahead. Having to prepare myself for the possible they may not make it.

Each day now is a blessing. No one knows the time or place when something like this will strike. One moment someone you know and love is ok, appearing healthy. Within a matter of hours they are fighting for their very existence.

This and other situations have seen me bring into my life a hidden strength that we alll possess. When trouble strikes, it is ok to be scared as this is normal. It is how we reacte after this, the decision, the choice in response, which will have a major effect on us,our family and those surrounding us.

Freelancing is the only choice as is the company and network being established. An idea is taking shape, people are becoming interested and as a result dreams coming real.

I never knew it was possible to become an entrepreneur, business owner, writer and mentor. Freelancing in any industry has its ups and downs.

By having to face death my life has been enriched and I appreciate every day.

Thank you for reading and I value your comments.

" Every day is a new beginning with no mistakes in it yet..midnight the perfect time of the day ending and new one starting!" - Susan T

Letting the Curves Take You

December 18th 2007 11:13

Trying to maintain control in this life is a bit like trying to maintain control on a roller coaster. The ride has its own logic and is going to go its own way, regardless of how tightly you grip the bar. There is a thrill and a power in simply surrendering to the ride and fully feeling the ups and downs of it, letting the curves take you rather than fighting them. When you fight the ride, resisting what’s happening at every turn, your whole being becomes tense and anxiety is your close companion. When you go with the ride, accepting what you cannot control, freedom and joy will inevitably arise

Fear - how real is it..

December 17th 2007 12:17
Fear can be so mind chilling that your body can refuse to move, I have often wondered why animals get hit of a night time, particularly the kangaroos here in Australia. They hear a vehicle, turn and look direct into the headlights. They may become blinded and panic, thus getting hit and an accident occurs.

on Christmas Survival Tips

This is so true I am not the only to experience a lot of these things. Four children of my own, three step daughters, 3 grandchildren plus parents make for a very busy christmas. I am only 37 and wouldn't change a thing. No matter what the chaos..

Excellent tale

It is very true, people will fear change and often panic at the first sign of competition or change. competition can be healthy as it keeps you fresh and up-to-date with your marketing and promoting.

Sometimes I see Fear as
False
Emotions
Appearing
Real.

Thank you again for reminding me how good life can be.

What a wonderful post! This fellow is a real inspiration. Life is what you make it - not how much money you flash around or the lifestyle you lead. Believing in yourself, your people and products is so important. Not breathing down the CEO's neck and keeping to a set of quality values, is a wonderful idea! By helping others, ie investors, you are helping yourself and the team grow.

He sounds like how I am striving to live - time will tell how I go. Well written Marijula.
