I took a vacation from writing--what was supposed to be a week long vacation, apparently turned into a two month, okay, three month vacation. Holidays are over, kids are back in school, my excuses are over. So I'm back.
Did anyone else find a bit of "writer's block" over the Holidays?
I've written a lot of articles for stay-at-home moms who were interested in returning to the workforce when their kids entered school. Most were written before our economy tanked.
Lately, a lot of moms have been talking about having to return to work. Of course, now the market is worse than ever, and many of these moms have resumes that are a bit ...dated. Plus, for moms who still have young kids at home, opportunities are even more limited. Jobs are paying less, meaning daycare is going to take a big chunk of the check.
Anyway, I've been reviewing these articles and started researching some of the recent stats. I also contacted recruiters and career specialists, particularly ones that specialize in moms reentering the workforce.
Rather than bore everybody with non-parenting stuff, I'm putting some of this info on other sites.
If you're looking for career info/part-time updates/work-at-home tips and warnings/or you've been thinking about starting a small business here are some links worth looking into. I will add new links from time to time -- sign up on the RSS feed if you want updates on this).
Here are some of the current links with some useful career stuff:

My husband is finally home tonight.
After umpteenth flights and as many shows and late evenings. He's only home for tonight and tomorrow. I don't want to tell my kids he'll be back on a plane again Monday.
I can say we're looking forward to Thanksgiving, when he will be home, and my family (his family and possibly my parents) will be here, at our house (not the normal place for the holidays). He'll be here Friday too, and Saturday and Sunday. Quite a feat for us, when we had expected he would be on his way to New York by Saturday.
My point is...like so many on this incredible earth....we have a lot to be thankful for. I am grateful for my family, my family's health, our love for one another. I'm grateful for the sacrifices my husband is making, even though it's hard on all of us. But if he started to say "no" to his obligations in this market, well...he might not have anything to say "no" to.
I understand that so many people are making sacrifices these days, particularly in this tough economy. Some families have loved ones fighting for our safety. Some have loved ones fighting unbearable health issues. Some of us our just trying to hold our heads up high above water. Some are trying to put food on the table and roofs over heads. I know families who are losing their home--one family will have to be out just in time for Christmas. (Their children don't know yet.) But still, they feel blessed. Sad and scared, but blessed. They have family, God, and a determination to get through this.
It's early, I know. But Happy Holidays and God Bless All.

It’s the first day off from school (teacher meeting day or something like that) since Halloween.
I thought halloween was over
My kids are begging to hang out at the mall. They are 9, 6 and 3, so hanging out at the mall means playing on the soft plastic playscape and hiding out in the climber at Jeepers. I give them a handful of tokens for the games where the enjoyment is mostly derived from winning strips of green tickets for good scores

I need help!
My son, also my youngest, stayed in the crib the longest out of all my children. After all, there wasn't another kid coming along to kick him out.

Declare tonight cereal night!
I don't know how this tradition started, but somehow cereal night became a family favorite--at least when my husband's not home for dinner. (Cereal night, doesn't quite work for him
