Surprises every day...

Where in the world could you walk outside your house and a taxi drives straight up to you, well actually two taxi's drive up to you, fighting to take you to your destination. Then when you hop inside say a good morning the driver and he knows where you are going before you even tell him. 'To the school' he says, 'Futures'. Yes I say. Wow this is why I like this country, and this is also why I sometimes hate this country also.
The place I talk about is Egypt. It has many a wondrous moment, and then before you know it there is the most frustrating moment and there's not much you can do about it. Egypt is still a developing country therefore things are still evolving in every sector of society. For example in their schools they are just implementing free thinking and creativity as for many decades there has been a rigid strict drilling kind of learning teaching maybe yes a little, but not educating.
Their postal system is run by baksheesh (tips) so when you pick something up they just decide on a price to charge you. And as a foreigner they will charge you much more than an Egyptian if they can get away with it. The police are the same, and is can seem like people are just out for money money money. I suppose this is similar everywhere in the world, I mean the money part, but the thing is that if official people like post and police can go around doing wrong doings then why does the society have to doing everything right?
The answer to that question would be that they are binded by Islamic rules, and binded they are. Obviously the people believe that it is god's intention for these rules to make a just and great society and individuals but it is also a great way to keep people at bay for the president as well.
At the moment in Egypt the weather is high into the 40's and sometimes reaching 50 therefore the people go into siesta mode. There is really not much you can do at the height of the heat so they just sleep or rest and then once the sun goes down everyone is up bursting with energy. For me, always enjoying the sunlight hours more, its hard for me to waste away those precious moments, but its also hard to stay awake at least times with the heat making you droop like a flower in the sun too long.
Everyday I'm learning and growing from these experiences and sometimes I am shocked, but it's better to be shocked and learn from it then to have the world all the same and boring. Obviously there will be differences and sometimes there are differences that outweigh what we do in Australia. People seem to go out of their way to do things for others, and guests are always looked after. Friends are treated as family, and family is treated like gods. They seem to have less worries as they leave the future up to god and what he intends which can take some things off your shoulders. As if its meant to be it will happen, you leave it up to Him.
