Following the appointment of King Kenny and hopefully somethig to write about then I will be re-opening the blog in the near future!
The derby is a major telling point, first game at home after several poor performances over the feastive period
Steve
It was a Sunday, Liverpool had won their last 2 league games – it’s the twilight zone!
Yes, Roy had managed 6 points in his last 2 games; this even included some decent attacking football against Blackburn but Chelsea would be different – they are Persia and Liverpool is Sparta and would have to recreate the 300 at the battle at Thermopylae to gain 3 points in this one.
Rafa, was not present and somewhat taken out of history – in this play he will take the role of Themistocles; the general who won the battle at Sea against all odds and set the scene for the greatest battle of all time. Rafa had left Roy with the core of a world beating team who could beat anybody on a given day. Ancelotti was Xerxes, the Persian leader who has the resources of the world at his finger tips and was prepping his crack team of Immortals to take down the defense of the mighty Liverpool warriors. Finally, Roy was King Leonidas I of Sparta well an older version, without the fight, tactics and muscles.
Ok, now lets get down to action – Liverpool had issues, the Greek God of Towering Headers Kyrgiakos, Glen Johnson, Agger and Aurelio were all missing for Liverpool. Chelsea has injuries of their own, Fat Frank had too many grapes and figs which meant he would miss this one, Essien was also missing and poor Drogba felt unwell but couldn’t get a sicknote to be excused from games and was made to sit on the bench.
The Spartan warriors entered the pass; Fernando leading the attack and Stevos Gerrard and Reina organising a wall of shields to allow King Roy Leonidas his 9-0-1 tactic if required. Then came the Immortals; no expression on their faces wishing they were on the other side especially John Terry’s who’s mother was fascinated by the Spartan soldiers and their brothers. The battle started and the Red uniformed Spartans drew first blood; Fernando collected a ball from Kuyt without a second thought and slotted in to put Liverpool in front. Then Liverpool expected the Chelsea attack but nothing happened; imagine if the Persian’s had landed on Greece and then realised they’d forgot all their equipment this would perfectively describe Chelsea’s first half – Anybody seen the swords, spears and bows? I thought you had packed them dear? The more Chelsea faulted the more Liverpool had chances to the point Torres curled his second in on the 44th minute. Like Attica, the people of Liverpool felt this may be our day.
Second half kicked off; Drogba was now on and Chelsea had purpose – King Roy Leonidas had told the Spartan’s to pack away anything sharp which may be used for an attack and just use shields; Roy employed the deadly (to Liverpool) and leaky 9-0-1 tactic. Chelsea then sent wave after wave at the Liverpool goal; Pepe single handily kept Chelsea at bay with 2 absolutely world class saves – he was like Obi Wan had landed in Ancient Greece. The more Chelsea attacked, the more Liverpool went backwards and gave away possession and territory - Liverpool at one point were relying on luck given by Vesta. Ultimately, Liverpool borrowed a large slice of luck and put in 110% and finished the 90 minutes with 2 goals and a clean sheet – it wasn’t pretty second half but like any good Spartan army, they returned home victorious to the adulation of the plebs (yes, this is an official ancient term)
Roy – stop with the 9-0-1 negative rubbish football; its making blog writing a nightmare to the point I am needing to use entertaining events in history to perk it up!
Its all now seemingly resolved, NESV now own Liverpool and Tom & George have dropped the damages case for $1.6bn but the aftermath continues as Tom runs his mouth like a bath. He appears on Sky Sports and gives the interview of a victim; how he was swindled and how he had Liverpool’s best interests at heart. Well Tom, I will set the record straight for you and I will justify your comments with facts.
In 2007, Liverpool as a business was still under developed but after a 3 amazing campaigns in the Champions League, the appointment of Benitez and the purchasing of players such as Alonso, Reina etc the club had money to burn. It seems obvious now that the club was to be sold by Moore to DIC but last minute you and George outbid them; instead of Moores and Parry doing the proper research about you they took George’s word. A 2 minute google search would of shown what you had done to teams like the Texas Rangers, Stars and what you had done to the workers in the North East of England (with holding their redundancies/wages after you asset-stripped their employer business). George you are not getting off scot-free either – your track record of destroying the most historic Ice Hockey team was disgusting.
Now to yesterdays ‘Epic Swindle’ interview – you mention Liverpool is a healthy business with a little too much debt but can meet its interest payments? Well, on Friday this healthy club was hours away from administration because you could not afford to pay RBS £240m; you had straddled this club with £25m - 30m interest per annum; you had defaulted on payments and your partner in crime had not defaulted to Mills Financial. It also seems your claim that you could pay RBS was based on money you were borrowing from another company? Does that sound healthy? Let’s face further facts Tom, where is the money from the sale of Alonso, Keane and Mascherano? All you say in your interview is you were swindled but lets look at this – you and George paid £200m for Liverpool and sell it for £300m and the new owners pay the debt , please explain how you made a loss of 140m on this?
Now on to your next claim, You and George invested £300m on new players and net £150m; it was the 2nd highest in the premiership. You also claim that Rafa wasted all of this money and you justify this by comments from Alex Ferguson. Now the facts – Tom & George look away:

Now taking the above in to account; Liverpool FC would have generated more than your net spend if you had not saddled it with debt so in fact, I think you have made money from the club on the sale of players. Your figures are not even close Tommy.
So next claim from Tom; we would of built Liverpool a new stadium but of the world economic crisis – well Tom, you were the owners of this club before the crisis and George promised the spade would be in the ground within 60 days – 3 years on, no spade has touched Stanley Park. You say the reason for the delays was because the original plans were classed as obsolete, so you had to pay £50m for a new design. Its interesting that the new designs offered a downgraded version of the original plans hey? Lets face other facts at this point; a stadium on paper is not the same as a stadium made out of bricks and mortar – how you can justify a stadium plan adds substantial value to the club is comical.
Following on from this, Tom said the RBS/Board was a huge conspiracy to sell the club to new owners. Well Tom, here’s some more facts for you – you owe the RBS over £200m which in real terms is tax payers money now; if a bank thinks its going lose all this money do you not think they may react? They agreed with you and George to bring in Broughton to find a buyer at a reasonable price – I would say £300m for a club straddled in £240m debt, in the relegation zone, needing vast on pitch investment and on the brink of administration is reasonable. Now you accuse Broughton of wanting a big PR coup in his life; his remit as agreed by you was to sell then club which he did – no? Now on to my favourite bit, labelling the fans ‘Militant Internet Terrorists’ – why would the fans be upset with you and George. Well here are a few clues, straddled our club with unmanageable debt, did our dirty washing in public, kept our money from player sales and made it clear you wanted to fleece us i.e.
"Liverpool will be the most profitable investment I've ever made" - Tom Hicks, April 17th, 2010 Wall Street Journal
But lets not pretend its just Liverpool you do this to:
This is the same Tom Hicks who, within weeks of taking over the club in 2007 compared the purchase of Liverpool FC to the purchase of Weetabix:
“When I was in the leverage buy-out business we bought Weetabix and we leveraged it up to make our return. You could say that anyone who was eating Weetabix was paying for our purchase of Weetabix. It was just business. It is the same for Liverpool; revenues come in from whatever source and go out to whatever source and, if there is money left over, it is profit.”
So I will conclude my thoughts here for today – Make of it whatever you want. I will always be happy to see the back of Tom & George but now we just have to hope NESV are not trying the same game on.

Ok, a tail of two cities; 2 teams with American owners; 2 teams with unsustainable debt against them meeting for the bragging for the North West rather than the usual title deciders – the days in which these two team could simple afford anybody they desired have now gone with that option now sitting with Man City and Chelsea to a lesser degree. Despite this, todays derby is still the derby to watch for passion and hatred (well the fans at least); Man U had dropped several key players in mid-week in preparation for today but this only lead to Ranger getting an unlikely draw against them in the Champions League. Liverpool went down the same path by dropping several key players for Thursdays Europa League fixture against Steaua and that’s were I’ll start this post.
An relatively empty Anfield had to tolerate the wind and the rain (that’s not a YNWA pun) to watch Liverpool’s latest episode of Thursday night togger; the teams were announced and as expected no Gerrard or Torres were present – I believe they prefer a nice restaurant meal and a trip to the local Odeon on a Thursday rather than playing footy in the rain (I obviously made this bit up!!!!) The kick off happened and within 25 seconds Joe Cole was through on goal and slotting it in; yes Liverpool went out and attacked in the first half but that pretty much summed up Liverpools first half. Steaua then played and worked half and had the better of the first half including finding an equaliser and missing several good opportunities. Second half started and Liverpool found another gear (not reverse; they kept that for todays game) – all of a sudden Liverpool starting attacking and scoring; Ngog, yes Ngog knocked away a brace including a penalty; this was met by a massive claim on Channel 5 that ‘Ngog just can’t stop scoring’. Even Lucas popped off the bench to lash a long range effort in to the roof of the new; this goal finally proven that he is a Brazilian. Anyway 4-1 win and little else to say

Sorry about the lateness but I have been in hospital having my head removed from my clasped hands after Sundays bore draw at Brimingham. Many fans welcomed Roy as the manager who would take us away from the Rafa's tactics and unambitious away performances; so what did they get on Sunday? 4-4-1-1 and a carbon copy of Rafa's famous tactics - why push Rafa to replace him with a manager who will carry on with the same formations? Answers on post code to: C Purslow, Anfield L4
Anyway to the game - Roy decided to give a LB a go with the debut of Konchesky (this did lead to our best CB being put on the bench, Agger must be confused) but their was no start for Meireles who had to make do with a seat on the bench. Joe Cole was still suspended leading to Liverpool starting with a dubious midfield of Maxi, Milan, Lucas and Poulsen. Most fans were concerned on seeing this line up and this was proven as Poulsen and Lucas took defensive midfield to a whole new level - at certain points I thought Reina had more chance at crossing th halfway line than Poulsen and Lucas. This defensive approach lead to Brum attacking on a regular basis forcing Gerrard to drop deeper and deeper to try and touch the ball; he dropped that deep at one point his ear drum seems to have burst and blood poured from his head for much of the game

......Well if there is I bet they are looking forward in the world of fashion not living on a planet like Earth which has gone 'Vintage'
Yes, I am not happy about the claim vintage is new or fashionable - in my world its old, sweaty and wrong. I have spent many a year convincing my dad to finally bin his 70s clothes and buy some new ones; its time to update his look. I have now woke up in a world that claims my 'rents are now the most fashionable people in the world; my dad is the new John Travolta.

My Liverpool Story
A Coup is happening! This can only be paraphrased with 'its unbelievable Jeff' - Liverpool Football Club is in Civil War; let's hope Tom Hicks doesn't still have Bush's number or we may be seeing F-18 and Abrams Tanks trying to liberate Anfield from the Scouse Insurgence. I am hoping to become the Scouse Information Minister in this conflict.
