L.A.M.P. - Diogenes: the symbol and inspiration of L.A.M.P.

STEVEN COLBERT, another hero

November 19th 2008 23:49
I have a personal pantheon of heroes; the thing they all have in common is their quest for truth and their fearlessness in speaking it, no matter how great the opposition.

I've always liked Steven Colbert. I liked his work as the voice of Harvey Birdman, a hilarious animated series about a retired superhero who has to go back to regular work as an attorney for cartoon characters (Hanna-Barbera characters, specifically)

I liked him on the Daily Show, and I like The Colbert Report--but that's not enough to achieve hero status in my book. I have ridiculously high standards, you see.

No, what launched Colbert into the hallowed ranks of my personal heroes was a speech he made in 2007 at the White House Press Corps dinner...with president G.W. Bush sitting not 6 feet away from him.

** For some reason, this event received no play on any major networks. I can't imagine why.

...Yes, if I could have my way I'd have my own Round Table.

Steven would be sitting between Ralph Nader and Helen Thomas. He'd be right across from Rosa Parks and Richard Pryor and George Carlin.

Bravo, Steven Colbert!

D, was there a link to the speech? I didn't see one. But I have to say, I'm loving The Daily Show. If George W Bush has brought us anything, it's great hilarious material for Colbert and his team.

I enjoyed that but I was actually feeling sorry for George Bush while watching it. I wonder what the guy next to him was saying. Some of those people must have been mortified. I sent it to my 14 year old son. He always watches The Colbert Report, which is how I know the show. He says he has seen a bit of that clip on tv here (Melbourne). Steven Colbert is a pretty funny guy. He has a great facility for being able to question people and make fun of them whilst allowing them the space to state their point of view.

Aimzster-no, it's a youtube video of the speech. You should be able to just click on the arrow. Let me know if it's not working, will you?

Mr. Smith-GWB deserves all of that and more. If you knew half the slimy business he's been up to, and how many lives were lost for nothing because of his actions, you'd be saying Colbert was too easy on him!

That goes the same for the American press. Every one in that room that he addressed deserved all of that and then some.
Thanks for visiting!
