Funky Ectoplasm

May 29th 2006 11:20
Ectoplasm refers to many things...

1. Parapsychology
In parapsychology, the term ectoplasm is used to refer to a dense kind of bio-energy that is said to be released from living things. Parapsychologists claim this elusive substance is what makes possible ghosts and the phenomenon of psychokinesis (moving things wtih your mind).

2. Aircraft
You know when you see a jet flying through the air, with streams of stuff trailing the wings, and tracing its flight? The vapour that comes off the wings is called ectoplasm. A famous experiment was conducted as study this effect called the Philadelhia experiment.

3. Cocktails
An ectoplasm is a cocktail:
i shot vodka
1/2 shot Grand Marnier® orange liqueur
1/2 shot Blue Curacao liqueur
1 splash orange juice

4. Cell Biology
In cell biology, ectoplasm refers to the outer regions of the cytoplasm of a cell. In this context it is also called endoplasm.

Funky.

What are the Nazca Lines?

The Nazca Lines are geoglyphs, that is, drawings on the ground, or natural terrain of the earth. They are called the Nazca Lines because they are located in the Nazca desert in southern Peru, and because they were created by the Nazca culture, who lived in the area between 200BC and 600AD. They were first spotted by aircraft when commercial airliners started making trips across the Peruvian desert in the 1920s
