Step forever

Step parents are always going to be second best.... never ever will they live up to be what our real parents are to us... or can they? From my experience my step mum has always been in my life, as my parents seperated while i was young, but what I also had to experience was my mum meeting new people. This was seriously a wrong wrong move, as no one that came across my path would be as good as my dad no matter what they had to offer, let alone if my mum was actually happy.
I sat and listened to a friend and his mum talk about the 'father' and his new 'partner' and how much they were disgusted by their relationship when really maybe if they both looked at his new found happiness then they would also be happy. People being selfish can in turn be a great thing.
I have now accepted my mums choice to leave my dad, as not selfish one but a honourable one, as now she can finally have the life she wanted with her new man. As much as i like the new man, he will never be my dad as those things run deeper than blood but at least he may be able to offer support when my dad is not around.
Step parents... will they ever become real parents or is this a term people will always categorize themselves as in the future to come?
