The Final Leap...

Next month will mark the second anniversary of Over.Exposure launching here on Orble. When I first embarked upon this project it was something of a rehabilitation process after six years of continuous study. The prospect of being able to write freely upon subjects of interest, without the need to exhaustively reference and qualify my statements, worked in tandem with the lure of being able to derive some income whilst doing so. Save for a brief period at the commencement of this project, the dedication has never been sufficient on my part to make the latter come to fruition.

In spite of this, Over.Exposure has consistently ranked highest of the non-domain film blogs on the Orble network for well over six months now, and I continue to derive enough enjoyment from the project to see it continue. And while I am grateful for the opportunity presented to me here, and the assistance of many fellow Orble bloggers, I have decided to relocate Over.Exposure to a site more in keeping with its individual nature and my own relaxed approach. This is no indictment of Orble or the opportunity it clearly presents for amateurs to make a handy stipend out of their writing, but a simple acknowledgement of differing priorities.

For those of you following me over the leap, you should expect more of the same. All content from the previous site will be relocated shortly in amended form, in accordance with a greater knowledge of the elements that work and confidence in my own strengths as a writer. The silence I once interpreted as shouting to an empty room has given way to an appreciation of a small but dedicated audience that now sits in hushed anticipation. Let me take this opportunity both to thank you for that attendance, and offer my assurance that the exposure has only just begun.

Strange Shifting URL

August 19th 2009 01:42
I've noticed something rather curious regarding one of my recent blog posts, namely this one:

Exposé - Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde

When I first posted the article the url ended with expos-dr-jekyll-mr-hyde/

Since then I've modified the post several times, and each time I do so the url seems to change, so that it's currently expos-dr-jekyll-mr-hyde/4/

This is odd, because all my other posts have been modified several times too, but none of their urls have changed. It also bugs me that this is probably playing havoc with the search engines keying into it, so what's going on?

You missed the biggest point, which is that escalators are not meant for you to just stand on and ride to the top. They're to get people up a flight of stairs much faster, which means you're actually supposed to be walking up them.

on Vampires

How serendipitous! Only yesterday I read a short story by A K Tolstoy called The Family of the Vourdalak, about a village in Hungary that is overrun by vampires, and one of the primary characters is named Georges.

There's also the vampire protagonist Count Saint-Germaine, from the novels by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. Methinks the film is indulging in a little hypertextual fun!

Congratulations on so many fronts, not least of which is (unintentionally) finishing with a quote from Spaced.

Interesting topic, and no, I don't think it's gender related. Some of my favourite games of all time, such as the Legacy of Kain, Prince of Persia, and Assassin's Creed series', have narrative as one of their foremost strengths.

This actually has a fair bit of overlap with my most recent post too...

Cobber is a Victorian-era term from England, I believe. It's still widely used here in Tasmania.

Interesting, but it doesn't look like a phone to me. Her fingers twist, as if she's either holding something flexible/non-rectangular, or just holding her hand there for some other reason (hair maybe).

Only if you assume it's a phone is any of it inexplicable. Sure, it's a bit odd that she's apparently talking to no one in particular, but mental disease is timeless...

Quite right, Bryn, and yet its legacy in Western cinema is curiously restricted. Try to think of another film that covers the same ground or deals with similar concepts on such a scale and you come up rather empty. It seems to have had a much more resounding legacy in Japanese anime, with things like Appleseed, Ghost in the Shell, and even Cowboy Bebop.

I believe I Walk Alone was shown on ABC2 recently, as part of the Kirk Douglas season, so it isn't entirely forgotten. Such a shame he gets referred to as "Michael Douglas' father" these days, as I think he's the better actor...
