Spring 2010 Trend Watch
March 11th 2010 02:49
Ooookay, so here are the predictions, gathered from such illustrious magazines like Vogue, and interpreted by me, and by what I've seen people wearing. Hear we go.
For the Ladies:
1. Graphic prints blended with animal prints. These are coming in, in all colors- most notably the peacock print and color mix seen lately in knee length sundresses. Honestly, I would recommend pairing this print with either a very understated denim, trouser, or wear it in a dress. Don't over accessorize, because if you are wearing a print this major, it can wear you. Think simple heel or sandal, and maybe a cuff.
2. Buttery Tan Leather jackets. I'm loving the motorcycle cut, and saw it recently on a girl in this color. Target is selling one for around $30. The workmanship looks worth it.
3. Black eyelet dresses and tops. They are in, just be careful, and make sure you're one of the few that can wear black close to the face. Quick test: Hold up a color swatch to your face, if you tend to look purple or green, then it would be best to divide it up from your face with a chunky necklace in a color more suited to your tone. This way, you can wear black and look your best.
4. BOLD Purple. I've been seeing it everywhere- even in silk evening pants, paired with black blouses. Make sure if you decide to take that risk, you WEAR it.
5. Pale, floaty cottonesque fabrics like in a gray blue or a dusty pink. It sounds typical for Spring, but Hermes for example, is revolutionizing these colors and making them more masculine- appropriate for men and women.
6. Polka dots with white backgrounds and tiny black dots.
7. Poppy Red
8. Grecian draped floor length gowns in Ecru.
9. Snakeskin Strappy Sandal Heels: Dillards has a line by Calvin Klein that is superb and can be worn with most of the trends listed above.
10. Textured bags. The trend for bags this season tends to be, the more texture (whether it be pilling, ruching, snakeskin, etc.) the better the bag.
For the Men:
1. Cotton or chambray shirts in pale blues, and dusty pink.
2. Poppy Red Dress Shirts. Just BE CAREFUL. Only men with darker complexions should try this. Otherwise, you come off looking like a man dancer. Trust me, don't go there.
3. Ecru linen trousers. Classic, and look beautiful. When paired with a pale colored dress shirt, it's an updated look on "Easter Sunday" and so chic right now.
4. Shorter hair on men. It's clean cut and classic. This season, for the men, it's all about class and sophistication.
5. Cotton Flatcaps in lighter colors. Just don't get cheesy with the Easter Egg colors.
6. Boat shoes. I know, you're going to tell me that only Frat Boys wear this. Well, actually a canvas boat shoe can be attractive when worn correctly. Just don't get too overzealous perpetuating the yuppy myth.
7. Lighter colored swim trunks. Sky blue is going to be HUGE this season.
8. Light fabrics cut into Military Coat Styles. This trend takes a classic cut- the Military Coat- and puts it into a wearable fabric that can be worn during warmer months, and most are waterproof- so they make a perfect alternative on a rainy day.
9. Teeny check patterns- especially in blazers.
10. Gray and Black thin crew neck t-shirts.
And there you have it everyone. Spring Trends for 2010!!!! Have fun shopping!
