Final Four Preview
March 30th 2012 02:27
Only three more mens college basketball games remain. Well four if you count tomorrow's game three of the best of three CBI series between Washington State and Pittsburgh. Two games on Saturday, and finally the championship on Monday.
The first game of the doubleheader features a civil war in Lousville taking on Kentucky. Everyone expected Kentucky(36-2) to make it this far, few felt Louisville could do this however. Louisville(30-9) won the Big East and has had little trouble thus far in the tournament, similar to last year's champion Connecticut. The Huskies won the tournament, then eased through the tournament led by Kemba Walker.
This Louisville team is quite a bit better then the team who lost to Kentucky back on December 31st, by seven points. Even then Louisville was fourth-ranked in the country. What wasn't there back then was the defensive stature that head coach Rick Pitino has installed now. Kentucky has had little trouble with the tournament so far, easily beating Baylor in the regional final. Nobody has really given them any competition so far. Louisville will. Expect a great game, one which will go back and forth for most of the way, until the end when Kentucky pulls away with freshman Anthony Davis being the key.
Ohio State faces Kansas in the second game. All along I had Kansas and Kentucky making the championship game with the Wildcats taking it. I still feel the same way. Kansas(31-6) is the more solid of the two teams. Not only because of Thomas Robinson and Tyshon Taylor but because of the supporting cast. Ohio State has a great cast around Jared Sullinger and Marshawn Thomas, but not as good overall as the Jayhawks. Now I have been wrong, many times, I just feel Kansas with Elijah Johnson, Jeff Withey, Travis Relaford, enjoys the better supporting cast.
The Buckeyes won't go down easy, though. This game has a strong chance of reaching overtime, with how evenly the two teams match up. Sullinger and Thomas will need to slow down Robinson in the middle to win. Point guard Jon Craft will need to outplay Taylor. Not going to happen. Kansas wins.
