Mark Viduka has reassured the Toon Army there is more to come from him after he finally hit form in the black and white

The Australian frontman has endured a season of frustration, with injuries and a lack of regular playing time having hampered his time in the North East.

"I'm not at my strongest, I'm still working my way back to that because I had a couple of niggling injuries," Viduka told the Northern Echo.

"As you get older it gets tougher to shake off injuries and I'm into my 30s now. When you're young you recover quicker, you can shake things off and you can play with the knocks.

"It doesn't affect you as much, but I'm not that age any more. I just have to accept that and do the best I can."

While Viduka's form domestically has caught the eye, he could soon be ready to draw the curtain on his international playing days.

Of the opinion that at 32 his body can no longer cope with the demands of regular international football, Viduka is set for talks with Australia coach Pim Verbeek.

"It's a really tough decision for me with Australia because I'm at the age where I have to look after my body and get the most out of it that I can.

"I love meeting up with the guys and representing my country, but I want to play for Newcastle for as long as and as often as I can.

"I want to be able to give 100 per cent to Newcastle. I might be able to pick and choose international games, but I'm having a chat with the coach so we'll see what comes from that."

Zidane to play in Australia

April 9th 2008 01:26
Former World Player of the Year Zinedine Zidane will play in an exhibition match in Australia on June 1.

"The idea came from my eight-year-old son Brooklyn," match organiser Alain Barataud was quoted on www.smh.com.au Sunday. "He said, 'why don't we bring 'Zizou' to Sydney?'"

"I chased Zidane for 18 months. He said 'yes' from the start but it took that long to find a date."

The former Real Madrid and Juventus player will arrive in Sydney on May 31 after playing in a charity match in the French territory of New Caledonia, the paper added.

World governing body FIFA is holding a congress in Sydney on May 29-30 and Barataud said he hoped Zidane's presence would boost Australia's chances of hosting the 2018 World Cup.

"We're also going to show 'Zizou' around Sydney so he can see what it would be like to have the World Cup here," Barataud said.

Juventus eyeing Liverpool's Kewell

Juventus eyeing Liverpool's Kewell

It is being reported the Juventus manager Claudio Ranieri is lining up a summer bid for Liverpool winger Harry Kewell, who could leave Anfield on a free transfer.

Harry Kewell's five-year contract with Liverpool expires on June 30th, and there are apparently no plans to extend his stay on Merseyside.

Kewell, whose time at Anfield has been dogged by injury, has made just a few appearances for Liverpool this season He is still struggling to overcome a series of injuries.

Fellow Australian, the Torino midfielder Vincenzo Grella, has confirmed that Juve are eyeing Kewell.

"It hasn't been talked about that much but when I was at Parma with Ranieri he asked for a lot of information about Harry," Grella told the Herald Sun.

"At that stage he didn't talk about a Kewell move to Juventus because he didn't know he was going to become the manager of Juventus.

"He was one of maybe three or four Aussies Ranieri asked me about.

"But he does know of the Aussie players and loves the mentality. He thinks that we're very underestimated as players. It could be an advantage for him."

Is Barcelona's time over???

April 2nd 2008 01:55
It seems to be a new shift into the world of football, where Barcelona only a couple of months ago were dominating. Now it seems they are struggling, once can say that is comes down to their 2 stars being available, Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi?

Is there time over and just hoping for the best this season, or are they truly convinced they can dominate.
