AMAZING FACTS- PART2

June 8th 2010 18:44
The 10 facts posted earlier have been very handsomely appreciated. So here are some more facts-

1. In 1982 Soccer World Cup Italy qualified for the Second Round without winning a single match. All the three matches they played ended in a draw. Luckily their goal difference was better than Cameroon who also had 3 points. The is history as Italy went on to win that championship itself.

2. Flying Kites is a professional sport in Thailand.

3. At the 1896 Summer Olympics U.S.A. could not win a single Gold Medal, because no gold medals were awarded during that edition. The winners were given Silver medal while the Runners up were given Bronze medal. No prize was awarded for finishing third.

4. Brazil remains the only team that has won Soccer World Cups outside their continent. Twice they have achieved this feat- 1958 in Sweden(Europe), 2002 in South Korea/ Japan (Asia). Geographically, even the 1970&1994 victories can be added to this list since Brazil comes under South America while Mexico & U.S.A.(where the World Cups were respectively hosted) are a part of North America. But FIFA counts both North America and South America as a single continent.

5.Brazil retained the original Soccer World Cup Trophy, also known as the Jules Rimet Trophy. They defeated Italy in the final. It was the most fitting final since both the teams had won two World Cups each.

6. Only two test matches in Cricket's 140 years history have ended tied. Australia was a part of both of them. Below is their brief summary-

In 1960
West Indies 453
Australia 505
West Indies 284
Australia 232

In 1986
Australia 574/7 dec.
India 397
Australia 170/5 dec.
India 347

7. Ironically Australia has also played the most number of Tied One Day International Cricket Matches- 8 to be exact.

Amazing Facts

June 6th 2010 09:52
This is a list of 'Did You Know' facts-

1. Portugal who are currently ranked No.3 by FIFA had just four previous appearances at World Cup. 2010 is their fifth appearance.

2. Kabaddi is the national game of Bangladesh, although it originated in India. While India's national game is Hockey, although it originated in England.

3. Greece won the 2004 Euro Cup. They had previously qualified for only 2 editions of the tournament, and had never won a single match before Euro 2004.

4. Football is the national sport of most countries in the world.

5. Germany holds the World Record for losing the maximum number of Soccer World Cup finals-(FOUR) 1966, 1982, 1986, 2002.

6. Maradona scored two of his famous goals in the same match against England in 1986 World Cup- THE HAND OF GOD GOAL & GOAL OF THE CENTURY. Argentina won it 2-1.

7. India won the Cricket World Cup in 1983. But the bookies had placed India at the lowest position with the odds of 1:66. That means every rupee (or dollar) that you bet, you were bound to receive 66 times the amount in return.

8. In the 1936 Olympics Indian Hockey team scored a total of 38 goals in 5 matches. Below is the summary of their incredible feat-
Beat Japan 9-0
Beat Hungary 4-0
Beat U.S.A. 7-0
Beat France 10-0 (S/F)
Beat Germany 8-1 (Final)

9.U.S.A. won the bronze medal in Hockey in 1932 Olympics despite losing all its matches because only three teams contested the Hockey competition - India, Japan and USA. Below is the summary of that competition-

India 11-1 Japan
India 24-1 U.S.A.
Japan 9-2 U.S.A.

10. The record for most goals scored in a soccer match is 149 goals. AS Adema defeated Stade Olymique L'Emyrne (SOE) 149-0 in 2002, and in fact, managed it without scoring a goal themselves. SOE started scoring own goals in protest of a couple of bad refereeing decisions. The two teams play in a top division Madagascar league.

INDIA LOST AGAIN

June 4th 2010 08:30
It is impossible to believe that few days back India had beaten Sri Lanka but they fail to beat Zimbabwe once again. I wonder whether this is some kind of match fixing. I mean after all this can't be practically possible given the recent forms of all three teams. Anyways India has had many bad games against Zimbabwe even in the past. Some examples include India's 3 runs loss at the 1999 World. Even in 1983 India was almost beaten but thanks to Kapil Dev's 175 (out of India's total score 266 runs) helped India win.

I hope there are no more surprises in this series.

The die or more commonly known in its plural form ‘dice’ can be used to generate scores which are similar to an actual cricket match's scores. In other words you can actually play a game that resembles cricket scores although it is nothing to do with cricket. It is just a die game. The following five steps are the guidelines for playing the game. They include all the rules to play the game properly. You may develop your own versions later once you understand it complete, but this how I developed it. The best aspect this game as mentioned earlier, it resembles actual cricket scores. At one point you might get bowled out for 82runs, yet at another instance you might score above 300runs. If your luck is bright may be even above 400. That is the variation this game offers. This is how it can be done-

1. Assign value to each number.

ZIMBABWE BEAT INDIA

May 29th 2010 10:49
The Tri Series that India is playing right now has already become a nemesis for them. In its opening match they were surprisingly beaten by outsiders Zimbabwe by 6 wickets. I wonder what will happen in the next match which is against a formidable Sri Lankan team. India must regroup quickly or else them might not even reach the final.

Brief scores of the match:

SOCCER PREDICTION

May 27th 2010 16:35
Soccer World Cup fever is gripping the world. I guess this is certainly going to get down to the wire. Remember the final of the last WORLD CUP. Well, I am writing this article to predict this edition's winner. According to me it's going to be Argentina's victory this time. Why do I say so?
If you observe the World Cup winners since 1962, you will find a pattern in them. Each World Cup since 1962has been won by either a European team or a South American team alternatively. Here is the list-
