This is the Remix- May

June 2nd 2008 12:02
So here they are..my top downloads of May. A collection of all the tracks getting a lot of airplay for me at the moment.

In no particular order..

1. Let Me Watch- Mario ft Juelz Santana
Writers- Sean Garrett, MIchael Croomes(Mr. Collipark), LaRon James (Julez)
Producer- Michael Crooms/Mr. Collipark
Album-Go!

Lovin this song..very catchy, very now, without being too produced. You probably don't need me to elaborate on the themes.

2. Icebox Remix- Omarion ft Usher & Fabulos
Album- 21

This is definitely one of the older ones..wasn't really feeling the original. The remix is much much better. Basically, Omarion is trying to decide whether or not to stay with his girl, and Usher advises him to think long and hard about the decision, making reference to "Confessions". The chorus is still the same, but we got a few more verses, with Usher featuring predominately.

3. Migrate - Mariah Carey ft T-Pain
Writer- Mariah Carey
Producer- Mariah Carey
Album- E=MC2

A far better and club ready track than “Touch My Body”. Possibly my favourite track off E=MC2. Just Mariah being Mariah- Glitz, glam, attention, Lamborghini's. Very smooth.

4. Bust It Baby- Part II- Plies ft Neyo
Writers- Plies & Shaffer Chimere Smith (Neyo)
Producer- Jonathan "J.R." Rotem
Album-Da Definition of Real

OK, I don't really know who Plies is, nor am I sure I want to. In my opinion, he may be one of those rappers I class together as “crunk” or “over-production haven”, characterized by sloppy, lazy flow. But this song, not to be confused with the Bust It Baby Remix ft Trey Songz or another remix ft Janet floating around, is like drugs. Forget the original, test out the remix, but definitely don't go past Part II.

I think with all the remixes floating around, no one will notice if Neyo drops Plies off the track and records it as his own

5. Closer- Neyo
Writer-Neyo
Producer- Stargate
Album- Year of the Gentleman

This song reminds me of Rihanna's latest style, with some house, R&B and prominent guitar riffs, which make for one club friendly tune. I know he writes a lot of her stuff (Unfaithful, Take a Bow) so it may just be that she is influenced by him, not the other way around.

6. Can't Get Over You- Lloyd
Producer- Street Mindz
Album-Street Love

Really good song, very easy and smooth. Another R&B artist who has been flying under the radar.Haven't heard a lot from him since his duet with Ashanti on "Southside". His new album has just exploded on the scene though, and did very well on the charts. We should be hearing him featuring on some upcoming tracks

Any thoughts? What are your top R&B picks of the month?

Winehouse Kicked off Bond Project

May 27th 2008 21:38
Amy Winehouse, who was set to sing the theme song in the next Bond installment "Quantum of Solace" has reportedly been kicked off the project. Beyonce Knowles has been approached to take her place.

Winehouse was told she could sing the official theme song on the condition that she cleaned up her act. Mark Ronson, who is to produce the track confirms the singer is "not ready" to record, and blames her increasingly erratic behaviour as the cause.

Winehouse would have gone down alongside other music greats to have recorded for the Bond franchise including;

-"Goldfinger," by Shirley Bassey
-"Live and Let Die," by Paul McCartney
-"A View to a Kill," by Duran Duran
-"Die Another Day," by Madonna

What do you guys think? Who would be better suited, Winehouse or Knowles? I'm a fan of both- Beyonce has star value, while Winehouse..well when I think of her, the words "controversy" and "drugs" come to mind..perhaps not something the directors would have wanted attached to their offering.

No Worryin' for Anthony Hamilton

May 27th 2008 12:33
Every once in a while a voice comes along that conjures images of a time firmly abandoned in history. Anthony Hamilton's smooth twang is one of those voices, reminiscent of the deep south during the early 70's.

Anthony Hamilton

Hamilton first exploded into the charts with his debut album “Comin' From Where I'm From” in 2003. Prior to his debut, he was featured on the Nappy Roots 2002 Grammy nominated track “Po' Folks” and also collaborated with a little rapper called Tupac for his single “Thugz Mansion”. He would again collaborate with Tupac-in a sense- on the 2006 remix of “Dear Mama.”

Listeners who were eagerly anticipating the release of the second album, yet wondering how well it would measure up to the first will surely be blown away. What he delivers are 12 solid tracks, all dedicated to good vocals, and musicality, less to beats, production and guest appearances. In fact, besides the track “Preacher's Daughter” featuring Tarsha McMillian, Hamilton delivers just that: himself.

Stand out tracks on this album include “Southern Stuff” where Hamilton not only delivers on the vocals, but again uses his amazing songwriting to absorb the listener right from the opening lines of “You're like a Cadillac, cool breeze in the 70's, you and me, holding hands, talking family.” Leave your opinions on the track. You can hear it below.

The title track is well deserved. “Ain't Nobody Worryin'” shows us the darker side of the pen, and for this reason has a haunting, warning tone. “Sista Big Bone” takes things up a tempo, while “Can't Let Go” slows things down.

Whatever decade you're living in, this is one singer and album that remains timeless. Expect to be spinning this album for some time.

The opening lines of Usher's fifth studio album "Here I Stand" firmly confirms his place among R&B 's influential set. Baby smooth vocals boasted on “My Way” and “8701” have given way to a richer, mellow sound. With “Here I Stand”, Usher has confirmed that he is here to stay.

Taking catchy beats and applying his smooth vocals is still a formula that works well for Usher, from upbeat tracks like "Whats Your Name" ft Will. I.Am right through to the smooth grooves of "This Ain't Sex". The overall sound is more cruising to the club rather than club ready tracks. At times, his vocals are reminiscent of a younger Morris Day or Michael Jackson
