Sorry Katyzzz - I just couldn’t resist!

Although the pic has nothing to do with my post - as Katyzzz kindly pointed out in her post, readers will be far more attracted to “bad-taste” photos!!!!!!
Now onto the real stuff for the people who actually read the posts….
Human nature. It baffles me…. You look at the ever increasing crime stats and think, gee things are getting bad. I think back 20 years and in my sun-drenched sepia-toned memories of riding my bike all around town, staying out till long after-dark without my parents worrying that I’d been kidnapped or killed, and it is quiet easy to believe that human nature itself is degenerating.
But I came to this country only 22 years ago, after spending the earlier part of my childhood growing up in Essex, England.
And if I reach back far enough I can recall life being very different over there. Yes my parents worried if I was missing for any significant period of time and there were strict limitations on where I could go. And rightly so. Because it was not a safe place, even back then. That brings me to the conclusion that it is more a matter of population. The more people, the more criminals – it makes sense.
When I do go off on a tangent and fret at the amount of violence in our cities and suburbs, pondering the loss of morals and plain old fashioned respect in people in general. I cynically remind myself of days even longer past – of the horrors faced by those living in medieval times – when machines were built and used often and legally for the sole purpose of human torture and death. And I resign to the fact that although we are still far from perfect, we are at least somewhat better.
It is a sad fact of human nature, that we enjoy hurting our own kind. You only have to look at the bullying that goes on in schools, kids pick on other kids, and they are pretty brutal about it too. And it doesn’t stop there, adults are just as capable of nasty, petty bullying on a daily basis, though they usually go about it with more cunning and discretion.
All humans are capable of both good and evil, really I think we are the only known life that is.
We have the capability to understand right from wrong, and we have conscience to decide which we will choose. We are pretty special – I must admit.
For all the wars we have waged against each other over such trivialities as religion and profit, who is ever really in the right?
How many wars have been waged, with truly pure and ‘good’ intentions?
If good and evil reside only in human souls, wouldn’t that be the war to end all wars? All the Soldiers of light – everywhere on the planet – standing up and doing battle with the soldiers of darkness.
Could that be the 2012 showdown?
Yes, I’m having a strange old day…..

I am commenting on this post only to vote for your image in hopes it makes it on the popular list. I didn't even read your post!
OK, so I actually did read your post. I think I would have voted for it just on the strength of your comments on a different post though. Nice to see someone else commenting on another person's comments on everyone else's creativeness. (I think that all makes sense if you know which post I am talking about.)
Anyway, keep the boobs coming and I will continue to vote.
Oh, and as for your post which I actually did read. I totally agree. The evil, strange, and bad people have always been there. As the population grew, the evil grew proportionally. Sadly they have also figured out how to blend in better along the way.
I miss the days when I was a kid and would leave the house at 8 or 9 am to go play. "Be home by dark." Ah, those were the days! For some reason I think things took a turn here in the U.S. after they found the cyanide in Tylenol packages. That seems to be the point in my memory where things started to change. Soon after there was a story about some whack job putting razor blades in Halloween candy. Things went downhill from there, and have been spiraling since.

And thanks for reading too. It's beyond understanding some of the evil ideas people come up with isn't it.
But I have still have hope... sometimes I can get so dragged down thinking about this stuff, but then one friendly act by a stranger can remind me that for all the bad in the world the is also an equal amount of good.
Cheers

Im a big believer in all crime merely being part of the human condition. We are a high class predator, which means we do not play well with others. We are hard wired to create a small tight knit pack, and defend it to the death. Yet we group together like prey animals - rabbitts, deer, cattle....Hence, we fight, for territory, for mates, for pack power. If we feel our pack is threatened - in any way - we get vicious towards other humans. Once you break it down like that, crime isnt unusual at all, its just a part of our natural state.
Its why I believe the first civilizations of humans were far more advanced than us. We are always trying to obliterate crime, whereas the ancient Romans and Greeks (even Egyptians and other cultures including Chinese) fully understood the human condition. There were acceptable ways of letting out the natural bloodlust and hormones. It was even understood that we could not possibly stick to monogamy. We really ask too much of ourselves now.

Too many un-natural laws and social rules if you ask me, especially the one that says it's wrong to sleep till noon!
But why are we so intent on trying to suppress our natural instincts and emotions? Why do fight what we are?
