Sony launches its latest salvo.

As global competition increases companies need to bring new, innovative products to market as quickly as possible. At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Sony unveiled latest plans to bring mobile gaming into a new level. The mobile gaming world got a boost when handset maker Sony Ericsson, which launched Xperia Play, the latest phone in its Xperia lines of Android based smartphones. The Xperia Play is a PlayStation certified device, this phone was geared toward mobile gamers. It represents Sony Ericsson in the smartphone and gaming arena. The 4 inch multi touch screen smartphone features a slide out gaming control pad with a digital Dpad, two shoulder buttons, two analog touchpads and four Sony PlayStation icons; circle, cross, square, and triangle. At the heart of the Xperia Play is the Qualcomm’s optimized Snapdragon processor with a massive 1GHz CPU and with embedded Adreno GPU graphics processor which gives a whooping 60 fps playback 3D mobile gaming and web browsing with minimal power consumption. The Xperia Play will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it has a 5 megapixel camera, TrackID, music recognition, Google Voice Search and social networking services such as Twitter and Facebook applications from the Android Market. Additional features include gesture, and motion gaming capabilities, and Bluetooth stereo. The Xperia Play is a smartphone and mobile gaming device. It’s not as elegant as the iPhone, but it offers more features and better gaming preferences. Sony Ericsson is doing an aggressive move, it pushing hard into mobile gaming, the handset maker announced partnerships with game publishers to deliver a well stocked ecosystem at launch and post launch, with many game titles available via the Android Marketplace. Sony Ericsson has been doing some partnerships with some of the gaming world’s best such as Unity Technologies, using it development platform to ensure a continuous flow of high-quality 3D game titles. The GLU Mobile/Activision deal will bring “Guitar Hero”, while the close collaboration with ElectronicsArt will bring some exciting versions such as the best selling consumer favorites- “The Sims 3” and “EA sports FIFA 10”. Its unique gamepad delivered robust control in “The Sims 3”, bringing a whole new life simulation experience, the Xperia Play’s gamepad is awesome it gives FIFA players-what the games looking for-ultimate ball control, quick player selection on the pitch, effortless moves and passes.
With WiFi hotspot functionality users had no problem getting online. The Xperia Play also includes microSD cable for synchronization, charging and file transfers, and an 8GB microSD memory card. Regardless of who we called, audio quality was excellent. The phone also has a noise shield and image stabilizer, and video recording for Xperia’s camera and of course geo tagging. The handset also supports Media Transfer Protocol and Android Cloud to Device Messaging (C2DM). The launch of Xperia Play could not have been possible without the support of Google. The Mountain View based Google recognizes the rising popularity and potential of games on the internet and the search giant can some how get people gaming on Android that will open up more opportunities to blast more ads in front of the users. Xperia Play is a truly revolutionary smartphone/mobile gaming device; it’s the first in the market. The Sony Computer Entertainment and numerous leading game publishers’ commitment further demonstrates that Xperia play will deliver on the long-held expectations from consumers , it’s a promising smartphone and mobile gaming device.
