Social Media Marketing Mistakes
July 2nd 2010 12:46
Today, whenever anyone considers marketing a new product, brand, or simply their blog, they think about how they should use social media. Simply having a presence on Facebook and Twitter is not enough. When you use social media sites for business, you need to manage your program to prevent unplanned glitches.
Some Common Mistakes to Avoid
Do not delegate social media tasks to your newest employee: Although you may feel that since your newest employee is young and hip that they know everything there is to know about social media. They probably are very aware of what Facebook can do but not experienced enough to understand the correct approach to online protests. Occasionally negative comments about a brand can erupt which need to be handled with tact and skill. A flippant or defensive comment can add fuel to the flame. A staffer with greater business experience is the better candidate.
You must continually monitor your social media sites: You must monitor your social media campaigns and respond to all comments (negative or positive). It is amazing how quickly unanswered comments can turn into bad press for your brand. If you do not answer the concerns voiced by the public, you can quickly become vulnerable and branded as inept and uncaring.
Respond quickly: Do not take too much time to create the perfect response because it might be too late. Information travels quickly online so you are better off responding immediately and following up with a more precise response later.
Social media sites can be very beneficial to your branding program. They are a fantastic way to connect with your customers. Just be aware that negative comments can become wildfire if not addressed quickly and with tact.
