So it begins

I'm not to sure about this blog thing.
Who's going to read it? Have I got anything interesting to say? Well I suppose I'm going to find out.
I am a Scottish guy living and working in France and trying to write some music when I can steal the time.
If I talk about anything its going to be music( I might throw in the odd film or book ). Obsessive? Definitely. Do I care? Not a bit. I should probably mention that I drink copious amounts of beer,Heineken to be precise. If anyone from the company reads this I am open to sponsorship or advertising.
OK I am currently writing and recording my new songs using an Imac and Ableton live. The process is much slower than the little 8 track I used before. Computers and software were created enslave and torture us
I admit to being both enslaved and tortured. Its all very interesting as long as you remember to pick up your guitar and play.
Time seems to be a reoccurring theme in some of the new songs, the lack of it,the speed of it and of course how long have I got to drink this 20 pack.
I suppose my musical taste would be described as Indie or Alternative but I like so many other things . It always annoys me when Itunes, which I really like, tries to categorize everything. Do i need to know its art rock. What the f*** does that mean
Band of the Blog
This could be a regular feature. I want to talk about what I am listening to as I write. Music I love, the stuff that influences me, you know gets the juices going.
So having said that go and buy the new Elbow album The Seldom Seen Kid.
There are moments on this record when I just want to kiss the stereo.
Its beautiful, soulful, sublime. Hang on I need to look up some more superlatives. Seriously, its the best record I have heard in a long time.
And go and check out Coming Soon at Really Long Link
French kids go Americana with great songs, harmonies, humour and that I just spent a week in the saddle look. I listen to a lot of Sparklehorse ,Grandaddy, Nick Cave, Talking heads and The Velvets I like the way this band have mixed their influences to come up with a sound which sits well next to these artists.
Cowboys, They're everywhere.
Tell it like it is, or how it should be.
