SNOWTOWN
SOUNDTRACK BY THE MESS HALL'S

JED KURZEL OUT NOW

Ivy League Records is very pleased to announce the soundtrack to acclaimed Australian film SNOWTOWN is OUT NOW on iTunes. Composed by JED KURZEL of THE MESS HALL, the original score plays an integral role in a film that has already been hailed a "masterpiece" by critics.

SNOWTOWN is the debut feature of Jed's brother, director JUSTIN KURZEL, who fans of THE MESS HALL may recognise as the man behind the award-winning clips for Keep Walking, Pulse and Bell.

Presented by WARP FILMS AUSTRALIA, SNOWTOWN is based on the crimes of John Bunting, Australia'smost notorious serial killer.

It recently screened in competitions as part ofthe 50th Semaine De La Critique (Critics Week) at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the 2011 Bigpond Adelaide Film Festival.

SNOWTOWN marks JEDKURZEL’s feature film debut as a composer.

"Right from the beginning Jed and Iknew the music had to inform the cut of the film and provide the very intimate perspective of the lead character Jamie Vlassakis. We didn't want the music tobe leading you through the film emotionally; it couldn't be there to manipulatewhat to feel. It had to be much more impressionistic and provide the very tenseand claustrophobic pulse of Jamie's descent towards hell.

Jed came up with the main Snowtown Pulse and it became so influential that it gave us a new beginning and end of the film. I think it is an astonishingly sophisticated score, which not only affects you intellectually but most importantly emotionally. It’s a muscular, visceral score and integral to the psychological journey in the film. - Justin Kurzel, Director SNOWTOWN

JED KURZEL’s composition career began several years ago with contributions to a number of independent short films. He then wrote the score for the critically acclaimed documentary ‘Naked On The Inside’, before composing the music for the Griffin Theatre production ‘Savage River’. His television debut came with the musicfor the first series of Claudia Karvan's, ‘Spirited’ the second series of which is currently in production with Jed again writing the score.

The eerie ebb and flow of Jed Kurzel’s terrific score isused to evocative and nightmarish effect - Crikey.com
