I know that everyone has there top ten list of movies, but the truth is, I think my list is the most important. I would love to know what everyone elses favorite movies are, so feel free to post a comment. Now, on with the countdown.

10 - Pirates of The Carribian (At World's End): Now, I love all three of the POC movies, but I included this particular movie of the trilogy because it was the most dramatic and well filmed of all three. The action, suspense, and *cough cough* romance makes this one of the best movies of all time!.

9 - Dirty Dancing: A little cheesy, yes. Phenominal dancing? YES!!! This movie defined movie making in the 80's. And EVERYONE knows that "Nobody puts Baby in a corner"!

8 - Patch Adams: Well, any movie with Robin Williams is pretty much gaurenteed to make a person laugh, but this movie will not touch only your funny bone, but it will pull on the strings of your heart. A man who wants to be a doctor who actually HELPS people, what a concept! This movie proves that Robin Williams is not just a funny guy but he is a truly talented actor.

7 - Music Of The Heart: As a musician who once thought of becoming a music teacher, this movie really hits home. when I first started working towards my music degree, schools were losing thier music programs all the time. This movie is, in my opinion, one of the best "teachers make a difference" movies.

6 - Dreamgirls - ok, so you already know that I am a music lover, but you also need to know that I am currently a theatre major. Therefore, it's a pretty safe guess to say that I LOVE musicals. This movie was phenominal, and hello, Jennifer Hudson as Effie was BREATH TAKING!!!

5 - Romeo Juliet (1996): Ok, so this is my absolute favorite Shakespeare play, and this production was wonderful. I love that the timing was modernized, but not the language. It gave an entire new generation a chance to love the beautiful works of William Shakespeare.

4 - The Rocky Horror Picture Show: as apparent in an earlier post of mine, I LOVE THIS MOVIE! It is definatly a cult classic, and so much deeper than what most people think. Did you know that the movie is not about transvestties or homosexuality? Well, it's not, not mostly. Mostly, and evidently seen in the lyrics of "Science Fiction, Double Feature", the movie is about B-movies from the 40's and 50's. Next time you watch it, keep that in mind.

3 - RENT: One of the best musicals ever written. Jonathon Larson was one of the most talented composers of all time, and the message of the show is so powerful. I have to admit, I was worried about them bringing the musical to the big screen. But when I found out that most of the original cast was going to be taking on the roles that they originated, I knew that the movie was going to be superb, and I was right!

2 - Gone With The Wind: "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" if you don't think this is one of the best movies ever made, because I know that it is! This movie is so wonderful that I not only own it on DVD but I also still have it on video cassette. A little overboard, maybe, but just in case something happens to one copy, I have a spare. If you haven't seen this movie, wake up, climb out from under your rock, and go rent it! It is SO great!

And finally...

1 - The Wizard of Oz: Oh Judy Garland, the things that you have given this world! Ruby Slippers, magical memories, and let us not forget, the knowledge that "There's no place like home". This movie is iconic in our world. I challenge you to watch all of the movies that you own and see if you can find 10 that do not mention, quote, or pay tribute to "Oz". It's close to immpossible. No movie in history has been quoted more that this movie. I have loved this movie since I was a baby, literally. When I was three, Dorthey was my imaginary playmate. Of all the movies I have seen in my life, none has ever come close to passing this movie as my favorite.

So there you go, my top ten list of movies. Do you agree with any of them, disagree? Please let me know what you think of my list and maybe tell me yours. Happy watching everyone!

Let's Do The Time Warp...Again?

December 11th 2008 23:20
Almost every single person in America has heard of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"; I became a "regular Frankie fan" when I was roughly nine years old. A bit young, I know, but my sister is 8 years older than me, and she got me hooked. Last halloween, I was very privaliged to be able to play Trixie in the stage version of the show at the university i attend. However, do I feel that MTV remaking the movie is a big mistake. the original cast was so great, that any new cast they came up with would fail in comparrison. Who would be picked to play Frank that could even remotly compare with Tim Curry? I also have heard that they are planning to add new song to the show. Would these rate as high as "Time Warp" or "Eddie's Teddy"? Will they work as well as "Damnit Janet" and "I'm Going Home"? I don't think they can. This movie is a cult classic, and should be left as that, A CLASSIC! Would anyone ever dare to remake "Gone With The Wind" or "Casablanca"? No, they would not, because they know that the originals cannot be touched or outpassed with newer versions. Now, I know that my words and pleas will not keep MTV from releasing this movie, but I do beg you to at least be very careful of who you cast, the way you perform the musical numbers, and the entire movie in general. The original is great, so if the remake is not as good or better, it will fail. I will go see this movie, more than likely the day it is released, but I am very skeptical about.

Twilighters - CALM DOWN!!!

December 11th 2008 22:53
As a 27 year old woman, some people found it odd that I was psyched about going to see "Twilight". However, I am a big fan of the series, and therefore, I went to see the movie the day it came out. It was not the most pleasent movie going experiance I've ever had; there were approximently two hundred 12-14 year old girls at the show I went to. The screen went blank for about one minute before the previews started, and the screaming made my head hurt. The first time Rob (Edward) came on screen, the girl behind me began crying; it was quite painful. Then I began to read posts and listen to opinions from Twilight fans to see how they enjoyed the movie. Now, just to make it very clear, I thought the movie itself was terrific. It was a great adaptation of the book, in my opinion, but I listen to the other fans, and it seems that they are outraged by the way the movie was made. Here's the deal people, it is impossible for a movie taken from a book to EVER be exactly the same. Things have to be taken out, added, and changed. Bugets must be taken into consideration, and limitations of the actors themselves. Imagine how you would have felt about the movie if you had never read the book, would you have then thought the movie was phenominal? More than likely, you would have. If they had made the movie exactly like the book, it would have been 6 hours long and would have cost them five times as much to produce. So, calm down a little, step back, and enjoy the movie for what it is, a great story.
