The 7th book of the Harry Potter series

Now I am reading the seventh book of Harry Potter, the Deathly Hollow. I've finished chapter 1 till chapter 23. The book is great. I really can't stop ploughing through the printed words about what is going to happen next. The danger around this seventeen year old boy is so imminent that he would have been caught and killed at any moment.
But reading so much so far, there are at least two points I don't understand. One of them is why Harry and his friends Hermione as well as Ron were so careless and they were easily caught by the snatchers. Being one who had the ability to confront the most powerful and evilwizard Voldemort, Harry should be able the protect himself and the other two. According to the story, he had reached 17 when he was captured. At the age of 17, I think he was not vulnerable anymore to the invasion of ordinary wizards. Then Hermione and Ron are bright and clever students at Hogwart. How come they didn't recognize someone was watching them nearby?
Since the first year at Hogwart, Dumbledore had been kind and friendly to Harry. Whenever the boy needed help, he was always there to give the boy a helping hand. So the bond of friendship formed between the old headmaster and Harry should be strong. How come Harry changed his point of views of his headmaster so easily. In his speech with his friends Hermione and Ron, I catch the sense that he no long trusted Dumbledore and he was kind of doubting the headmaster's arrangements before his death. As the story develop further, part of the content states that after reading the book and some articles written by Rita Skeeta, Harry's mind produced numerous questions about the old headmaster. How can it happen? Harry should have experienced Rita's lousy reports about him. He should have known that there was nothing true in Rita's writing.
The last point I want to share with any one who happen to read this web page is, why should we care about what our friend was like before we met him or her. If that friend had been a close friend of mine and he is always true to me and willing to face the most difficult situation with me, I wouldn't care if he had been a criminal, a thief or a murderer before. Even if he is being a prisoner now, I would still like him and trust him. I would try to understand why he had done something offending the law.
