SLOW NEWS DAY
January 10th 2007 18:59
It's a slow news day so I'm taking a page from the major networks and putting in a filler. Bear with me.
The other day I watched a program on PBS called ‘Resurgence of Anti-Semitism in the 21st Century'. I am not about to do a review of this program, I'll leave that to the pros. Watch for it in your local listings and watch it.
We've had much discussion recently about the Arab - Israeli conflict and this program can teach us all a lot. It is interesting to note that about 800 AD the Jews and Arabs could live side by side in peace. In fact, Jews, Muslims and Christians all lived together without too much problem. The show goes into the facts of what changed in the meantime to make Muslims hate the other two religions so much that they want to annihilate them. It stood out in my mind that when a young Muslim girl (she appeared to be about 4 or 5 years old) was asked what she thought of Jews, she replied she hated them. When asked why, she replied that Jews were sons and daughters of pigs and apes. Where would she get such an idea? From her parents. Where would they get such an idea? From the radical Imams who preach hatred.
Not all Muslims are terrorists, but they seem to be cultivating a new generation that believes Islam should rule the world, no matter what. The radical Imams seem bent on believing and teaching the Protocols of Zionism, which has been for years proven to be false. And this wild preaching is reaching the masses of Muslims who, in their ignorance, begin to believe it and pass it on to their children.
Some people can't understand what the US is doing in Iraq, or what Canada is doing in Afghanistan. Beside getting rid of the type of terrorists who would fly an airplane into the World Trade Centers, maybe they are trying to bring a bit of freedom to an oppressed people. Maybe they are trying to drag them out of their 11th century thinking and get them up to speed with the rest of the world.
I love PBS. This program showed both sides of the argument and made no judgement one way or the other. It showed the fallacy of the current Islamic thinking and it showed those who supported it. It left the judgement up to the viewer. I know PBS will re-run this show, so watch for it and then watch it.
This leads me to my next point. Canada's CBC network just launched a new show called ‘Little Mosque On The Prairie'. If you can get CBC this is a must see. It is a comedy set in a small town in Saskatchewan, post 9/11, and revolves round Muslims trying to make a living. It's a comedy and it's hilarious. It's on Tuesday nights but there is a repeat tonight of the inaugural show. Check it out. I think you'll like it. It shows both the tolerance and the bigotry against these people. I think it's great.
