Let's take a look into a film that made the slasher genera a mainstay in society. One of the most recognizable and imitated films of all horror history, sadly.
A group of young adults plans on reopening a camp on Crystal Lake, even though it has been closed down since a couple were killed in 1958. They all get together and try to make things work, but they are warned that the camp is cursed. Then the killings start, it is just one after another being killed by an unseen salient. All die, save for one named Alice, who is able to avoid death by being the last one that the killer hasn't gotten to yet. Alice hides in her cabin, but the killer throws the body of one of the would-have-been-counselors, forcing her to leave the cabin. Outside of the Cabin it is reveal that Pamela Voorhees was the killer all along. Pamela explains that it is because the camp counselors were not watching her son, Jason, that he died. Pamela is eventually defeated by decapitation at the hands of Alice, but not without a lengthy chase scene. Alice gets into a canoe and floats onto the lake till morning, when she sees officers to help her. Alice is then attacked by something under the water in the lake; She awakens in a hospital bed however, revealing that the attack was a dream.
This is the definition of a slasher movie. This is a killer running loose killing off young adults where no one can help them.Themes? Just read the Preface of my last one, that will save me some time. This is even more shallow than Halloween was. The story is by far one of the most uninteresting ones I can think of, and we are given no time at all to be given sympathy for any of the characters at all. The subjective camera is overused to the point of being annoying, and there is nothing worth noting for the camera work at all. The death scenes are splashy, if that is your thing, and the effects do make the gore go up quite some bit. The entire film is mediocre at best. The film is predictable and uninspiring. Is it scary? Yes. Is it A good film? Goodness no! Would I recommend someone see this if they haven't already? Not in the slightest. There are great horror films out there, and this is not one of them.
