Slash And Learn- Problem Solved
February 1st 2008 04:55
It would be nearly impossible to accurately pin-point the time in history when the capacity for human ingenuity rolled over and suffocated. If it helps to plea the case I think it died around the time we started force feeding "Certification", "Qualification","Experience", "Specialization" and a tirade of other relative terms down the throats of our work-force.
It's no longer enough to know how to do your job. It's not enough to be good at your job. The question is how many years did you spend doing your job? How many years did you spend watching porn in a College Dorm to get that slip of paper that says you know how to be a Professional?
The real question: Does it matter?
The educational institutions of our world are spitting out degrees like a Cop with a quota handing out speeding tickets. In case that analogy doesn't make sense. Modern degree programs hand out "Fast Track Degrees" which cut your course numbers and the amount of scheduled classes you have to attend to get the degree. They offer "Specialized Degrees" which train you specifically for a single career and usually sacrifice general education in the process.
Furthering that point - The job market seems to be exclusively concerned with candidates having degrees and have absolutely no concern for the actual skill or talent of the candidate. To be perfectly honest and blunt - most college graduates know less coming out of college than they did going in. I mean that in the literal sense. I'd also like to note that there are as many if not more skilled candidates without degrees than there are with degrees. To illustrate the current American Education system I will now use a visual aid.
Not that I disagree with higher learning. I am entirely for it. However it is flagrantly disgusting to see our world rely wholey on something so shallow and unqualified to represent the worth of a person. What's amusing is that we use education to qualify a person, but modern education fails to even qualify you as Educated. Think about that.
Game over.

This is a disease which will eventually drive every business to the limit of its incompetence - Parkinsons law at work.
There is another associated problem, which you can see anytime you read the job ads. Invert or read between the lines and you will realise that nearly every one of them stipulates that "quiet, serious, highly intelligent, self motivated, self reliant introverts with the capacity to excel in unsupervised positions need not apply."
Consequently I have been self employed most of my life, "energetic, goal oriented team player" that I am not.
You know of course what these words mean. "energetic" translates to "you will work at a rate faster than your predecessor who we just fired, but you will be paid less." "Goal oriented" means that you will be happy to meet our totally unrealisitc internal marketing targets, even if it means you have to work an extra 20 hours a week without pay." And "team player" of course translates to "ass licker who regardless of your ability to meet our ridiculous employment demands, must never show any initiative, never complain and be prepared to take up the slack that those paid more than you are usually leave for suckers like you."
