SAVE ON TOP QUALITY OLIVE OIL

May 22nd 2012 14:57
If you are a fan of cooking with top-quality extra virgin olive
oil as opposed to ambiguous blended bulk olive oil products
or, gulp, vegetable oils, there is a way to save.

"Cook's Illustrated" magazine recently did a taste test
study of 10 of the top-rated olive oils produced today. They
also compared the prices per liter of these top oils from
olive producing regions in Spain, Italy, the U.S., and Greece.

Their findings indicated that Terra Medi Extra Virgin Olive Oil,
pressed from Koroneiki olives was an excellent choice for olive
oil gourmands. Terri Medi at US$20 per liter (approximately)
was also the most reasonably priced of all the oils tested.

In contrast, the most expensive olive oil blend, McEnvoy
Ranch's Extra Virgin Olive Oil blended with six varieties of
Tuscan olives did not fare so well with the magazine's panel
of testers. This oil sells for approximately US$50.64 per
liter, more than double Tera Medi's price point.

Many times you can find small bottles of expensive olive oil
at closeout prices on the shelves of discount food stores,
a.k.a., "dented can stores."

WOLF MOUNTAIN AUCTION JUNE 1

May 20th 2012 11:57
Interested in picking up a Utah ski area with golf course at
bargain-basement prices? Well, if you can pony up a cashier's
check for US$100,000, you can get in on the the Wolf Creek
Resort and Wolf Mountain ski area auction on June 1.

The 3,000 acre resort with the golf course and ski area are
potentially worth between US$27 million and US$34 million
but will sell for much less.

The resort property is currently operating but the creditor wolves
are howling at the door to be paid, thus the auction which will work
in two ways.

1. The entire 3,000 acre resort will be offered in its entirety.

2. The ski area, golf course, events center and assorted
undeveloped real estate parcels will be offered separately.

Whichever sales method brings in the most bucks will determine
the winning bidder at the end of the day. To schedule a walk-around
of the property before the auction, call (801) 355-6655.

THEY SKIED ACROSS AMERICA

May 19th 2012 11:07
A Wisconsin couple, Carolyn and Santi Ocariz finished
their epic Ski Across America fundraising journey last
week. The energetic twenty-something couple rollerskied
up to 10 hours per day from Charleston, South Carolina to
San Francisco.

They ended their odessey by skiing directly into the Pacific
Ocean after raising US$18,000 for one of the top rated
charities in the world, Food for the Poor,Inc. The funds
will be used to feed those in dire need.

From sea level to altitudes of 10,500 feet, Carolyn and Santi
had a unique view of the USA, through the eyes of a rollerskier.
At the boundaries of Yosemite National Park, they were informed
by a federal employee they could not ski through. However,
they did run through the park.

To view some great photos of their trip and to possibly help
with a donation to feed the hungry, visit: www.skiacrossamerica.com.

on The Prison-Industrial Complex

There is one private nonprofit that's working
behind bars to help prisoners successfully
transition back into society. Virginia based
Prison Fellowship helps prisoners hook up
with a church family. Volunteers from the
various churches throughout the country,
help to secure employment and housing
for prisoners upon release.

A step in the right direction, at least.

on What Counts as Writing Time?

August 9th 2010 20:08
Dianna,
Yet another thoughtful post from your
keyboard regarding cataloging writing
time.

Let us not forget though, the importance
of feeding your creative mind by reading
both fictional and nonfictional works by
others, particularly classical literature.

Reading exercises the brain as opposed
to television which tends to dull it.

Keep up the great work and enthusiasm
for the craft!

Good ideas there Dianna. I like the concept of
having a conversation with your potential
characters. Fleshing things out ahead of time
makes the actual writing process go smoother.

on 5 Great Writing Blogs

September 7th 2009 15:51
Dianna,

Thanks for the writing blogs you cited on
September 7.

There's some great info on the ones I've had the
chance to check out.

Would you happen to know what publisher's
want novel manuscript page formating to
look like these days?

Double spaced, sure. Paragraphs indented?
Top right hand corner of the pages should
include last name of author, title and page number?
Sound correct or not?
