SIR SALMAN RUSHDIE AND THE ISSUE OF FREE SPEECH VIA JAIPUR-LITERARY-FESTIVAL,INDIA!

SALMAN RUSHDIE IS SELLING LIKE HOT CAKE IN INDIA AND THE GLOBAL LITERARY FRATERNITY.
The author was to participate in JAIPUR LITERATURE FESTIVAL,INDIA,but,he had to cancel his trip after having got some intelligence-reports that two paid assasins related with MUMBAI UNDERWORLD were in the way to kill him!The said report proved bogus later on!Yet,RUSHDIE chose to not visit the Jaipur Lit.Fest as he told CNN that it would be irresponsible for him,his readers,family and organizers if he went ahead and put people's lives at risk.

He later said @twitter that he would address the lit.fest via Video-Link.That too didn't happen!
RUSHDIE AUTHORED AROUND A DOZEN BOOKS AND,HE REMAINS CONTROVERSIAL AFTER 'THE SATANIC-VERSES',that he wrote in 1988 and,the book was declared as 'BLASPHAMOUS' by the fundamentalist faction amongst Muslims for the book allegedly contains some irreverential passages that refer to the Prophet and,the koranic-verses are depicted plus called as Satanic-Verses!
The book: 'THE SATANIC-VERSES' was banned in many countries.The ban is still in operation in 13 countries!INDIA IS ONE SUCH COUNTRY WHERE THE BOOK WAS BANNED EVEN BEFORE THE FAMOUS 'FATWA' ISSUED AGAINST THE AUTHOR IN 1989 BY THE SUPREME IRANIAN LEADER, AYATOLLAH KHOEMEINI!
RUSHDIE was given full security by the conservative government of Britain and he had to live in hiding for a decade.AYATOLLAH IS LONG DEAD!THE FATWA HAS BEEN LIFTED!THE MUSLIM ANGER REMAINS BOILING IN RELATIVELY LIBERAL COUNTRY LIKE INDIA!
Around 20 muslim groups threatened the organisers of the Jaipur Lit Fest and,on the last day,that is today when Rushdie was to address via Video-Link,these groups upped their ante and told that they would not tolerate even the picture of Rushdie!
The 5days Festival which is barely 6yrs.old ended with sad note that a liberal secular democracy like INDIA bowed before the erratic pressure from a section of extremists and,allowed itself to earn a bad name worldwide!
