Simplest of the Green Plants
January 12th 2011 06:04
The algae is the simplest green plants. All other plants are believed to have developed from them. The green scum found on the surface of still water diatoms, with their beautifully shaped, glass like shells; the giant kelp of the oceans, which sometimes measure more than 150 feet from base to tip, and the various seaweeds some kinds of which are edible. The redness of the Red Sea is caused by an algae in which the plants greeness is hidden by red pigment.
