I'm not a huge fan of horror movies but I'll watch a few a year to get me accustomed to the genre. My friends tempted me with this one by dropping the names of the lead actors (Rose Byrne & Patrick Wilson <3) and the writer behind Paranormal Activity.
I like a good ghost story. I use to love hearing them around a campfire as a kid. And those ghost themed Unsolved Mysteries- nothing better. So the first half of the movie was pretty good. The film had a few good jump-in-my-seat moments which I prefer over gory thrills (personal preference).
There was a nice dash of comedy! I liked the 'ghost hunter' type duo. Nice funny nod to Jason and Grant from the Sci-Fi channel.
Unfortunately, the last part of the film didn't live up to the first half. Just seemed to get random and silly. Seriously, Darth Maul demon?
SPOILERS! The film's unique plot point was astral projection. I thought that was a nice touch. Over all the film wasn't fantastic but wasn't a waste of time either.
I took one of my closest friends out to see 50/50 last night. I didn't expect it to be so serious and she didn't expect it to be so funny.
Our perspectives are very appropriate because the film was carefully balanced between the two. Very funny and true during some scenes and then surprisingly heartbreaking in others
Meaning Snow White and the Huntsman - the trailer was just released.
I've been a fan of Snow White for years, probably because strangers would say that I looked like her when I was a child. Honestly though- I probably only looked like her 'cause of my insanely pasty skin but I took it as a compliment regardless
Continuing on my health food kick- I started watching an overabundance of health related documentaries.
A couple of weeks ago I watched this one: King Corn. King Corn follows two college friends as they relocate to Iowa to grow their own acre of corn and follow it to the american dinner table
Paranormal Activity 3 is a prequel to the first two movies. It shows the start of the paranormal activity that has haunted Katie and her sister Kristi since their childhood. Katie being the woman being terrorized by strange activity in the first film and Kristi being the mother in the second film.
The Help is based on the best selling novel of the same name by Kathryn Stockett. I usually like to read a book before watching a movie, but in this case I saw the movie before picking up the book.
The film takes place in the early 1960s in Mississippi when a black womans primary job was keeping house for the upper-middle class white women of that area. Skeeter (Emma Stone) sets out to write a book and decides that the topic should be about the black women of Mississippi
Me and half of the geeks on tumblr were just refreshing and refreshing the page till this became available. And when it did, there were gifs, and screen captures, and parodies online in less then 10 minutes.
Saw this on tumblr and was blown away. As a woman I KNOW all of this but to watch all the facts brought together- it brings all the vague assumptions and feelings into reality.
I'm looking forward to watching the whole documentary
I'm a huge comic book fan! And actually, Capt. is my favorite. If there is a dud in the bunch, I hope It isn't this one. There are things about it that have me worried though. Keeping my fingers crossed.
It kinda makes me sad that the projectionist is becoming extinct. I actually moved from that little town and alas am no longer a projectionist (2 years was a good run). I miss it, one of the best jobs!
I'm pretty sure that the small theater I was at won't be getting digital projectors anytime soon. They don't really make a lot of money so they can't afford the digital ones. If there comes a day when all movies are digital then that theater may just shut down.
It's funny. I can't stop thinking about it! I want to go see it again! And you've already seen it twice? Wow. I'm definitely going back for a second and possibly third viewing!
And I agree about the visuals. Mindblowing! Looking forward to having my mind blown again. Thanks for the comment!
Hey Bryn!
This was definitely one of my must-see-movies of 2010. And I do believe it's in my top 10 of 2010.
Yea! I noticed the first bit didn't need the glasses. I took them off and looked around at everyone with their funky glasses still on. It was great.
"bio-digital-cosmic-jazz" couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks for the comment.
