Silence
Don’t you ever wonder why everything has to be so loud? When the world gets crazy and everything seems so deafening, even being out in the middle of nowhere, alone, is too much?
The birds chirping in the trees? They are no longer chirping they are just squawking.
What about taking a nice, relaxing drive? You will come across every idiot on the road, every person you see will irritate you and suddenly road rage is not such a difficult thing to understand. Plus that favourite song? Now begins to sound like nails on a chalk board.
Would it not be nice to fly out of the world once in a while and be totally surrounded by silence? You know the kind of slience that you can only find in outer space? The deafening kind, like when you have a power cut in the middle of the night and everything that is in your house is off.
But then I suppose every man and his dog would be flying into outer space to get some peace and quiet and earth would be deserted.
Perhaps it is the most silent place after all!
Where do you go for peace and quiet when the world around seems to be too chaotic?

I go into the multiverse inside; and write....
I have a beautiful picture of a woman being 'taken away' by angels.... you'll see it soon...
hope all is well with you... hang in there with the housemate

I live in Sydney so there is no such thing as silence and I have to drive at least an hour to get out of Sydney.
So what I do is lay down, close my eyes, put my ipod on and turn it up so I can't hear anything else except the music.
But I think the best sound in the world is the beach. Especially at night. Fantastic.
I don't think I've ever experienced total silence. If I did, I think it would freak me out and I would start imagining sounds.

This never happens to me.
Go for a walk, alone,
Go to a very comfortable library alone, just look at the pictures in books,
Meditate
I'd say get out into nature but you're already there.
Go back into your childhood in your mind and remember the small insignificant things, see how much you can remember and how far back you can go,
Fond memories for me e.g. waiting behind the back fence for my brothers to come home from school,
Swinging on my swing, under the big peppercorn tree, singing at the top of my voice, hoping the postmistress would be impressed with my wonderful singing [no ambitions to be a singer]
Having a puppy brought into bed for me by my parents, being told his name was teddy but having great difficulty thinking a puppy should be named teddy, when clearly that was a name you would give to a teddy bear.
Hope these help. I seem to have been lucky.

Thanks for your words. I love the beach at night. I have hardly ever lived near it, however when I was in Europe I could hear the sea washing up from my room at night....the pebbles that made up the beach made such a lovely sound.
I am used to silence. I grew up in Africa, we used to have compulsory power cuts twice a week, I love the sound of nothing....I miss the sound of nothing......
I have someone staying with me who interrupts my silence. He has no respect...in fact I got an email today which I was thinking about posting to your *QUOTES ABOUT MEN* site and I thought, Oh I shouldnt!! But after a few Pina Coladas tonight I will and I hope you appreciate it! *****LOL*****
I am really in to GROOVE ARMADA at the moment.....have you heard them before? I am not really one for listening to music as I dont have an IPod or CD man or whatever everyone listens to at the moment, but I have one of their CDs I put on the stereo now and again when I am in the shower......very relaxing.
*lol* you should try and listen to complete silence once in a while. My brother lives in Sydney (HE IS THEEEEEEEE MAAN!!!!!!) and I know the few times I have been to see him it has been LOUD...

ah I hear what you are saying. I must admit I love being out in the wild, it is so peaceful.I guess I am lucky because I do not live in in a big city and when I really want to escape I go to the mountains. However everyone is going up there now. YOu cannot go there without driving past seceral cars.
I am definitely working on the meditation thing. As soon as I get the chance I am going to get a CD I have been recommended for this.
I must admit I love your idea of going to the library and looking at the pictures in books. However, even in the library now it is loud., What happened to people being quiet in the library?
I had to laugh when you mentioned about Teddy. *lol* My aunt had a dog named Teddy and he looked just like the one from 'Annie' that was named 'Sandy'.
Thanks for the tips. I shall try a few. Need to go for a walk today I think. In the mountains. With no one else. That is sounding heavenly actually.

Wow power cuts. You must have been able to see the stars all the way down to the horizon. That would be a sight. Not much chance of getting that in Sydney.
I went away last week for a beach holiday and the stars were so much brighter.
I have family that live in central NSW so they obviously don't get to the beach very often. To see the kids playing in the water is a sight. Though I do sit there thinking there is no way I could be that far away from water.
Just like when I see the bright stars, they look at me like I'm a dingbat when I comment on them.

We could also see the stars every night as there were no real big city lights to hide them. Going out into the bush you could see the Milky Way clearly stretching across the sky. Beautiful.
Water is amazing isn`t it? Can suit any mood.
*lol* no appreciation for the beauty huh!? Don`t worry I get the same looks when I see similar things....don`t understand how it is not so obvious to everyone.
May your heavens be starry this night
