SHREK PREQUELS AND SPIN OFF

In Fairy tales, Ogres are creatures, sometimes Cyclops, who kidnap and eat people. Princesses are most of the times in distress waiting for Prince Charming to come and rescue them. And they always end with the Prince carrying the Princess on his white horse towards the sunset or his castle followed by the sentence “They had many children and lived happily ever after” – Don’t you wish life was that simple!
Now Shrek was an exception to the popular fairy tale formula. We had an Ogre who hung with a Donkey and a Cat in boots and sometimes with Three Little Pigs, Big Bad Wolf, Pinocchio, Three Blind Mice and GingerBread; and he was never tempted to eat them, not even the obnoxious Donkey and delicious looking GingerBread. The Princess, who knew how to defend herself with the use of martial arts, wasn’t the fairest of them all; except to the eyes of her beholder. There were also many comedic references to popular fairy tales.
These are some of the elements that made Shrek interesting, enjoyable and original. Of course this only applies to the first two installments. The third one, like many trilogies, just wasn’t as good as the previous ones. At least everyone got a happily ever after. Sort of: Shrek and Fiona got their hands full raising their three adorable little monsters “children”.
With Shrek 2 we found out that Fiona had been curse to turn into an ogre every night by the Fairy God-Mother and that her father had promised that she would marry her son Charming and that he will become the next king of Far Far Away. – Must be a great place to rule, thanks to its location, you shouldn’t have to worry about annoying neighbors or surprise invasions. – And with Shrek The Third, that Shrek and her didn’t become rulers of the kingdom, but her cousin Arthur.
But we don’t know anything about Shrek and how he came to the swap he loves so much and went thru many hardships to keep it in the first installment. In Shrek The Third he told Cousin Artie that his father “used to bathe me in barbecue sauce and put me to bed with an apple in my mouth.” the only insinuation to his past. Soon, we will find out everything about him thru two prequels: Shrek Goes Fourth (2010) and Shrek 5 (2013). - Wouldn’t one movie be enough?
Shrek Goes Fourth’s plot was revealed on February and goes as follow “After challenging an evil dragon, rescuing a beautiful princess and saving your in-laws’ kingdom, what’s an ogre to do? Well, if you’re Shrek, you suddenly wind up a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, a reluctant Shrek now agrees to autograph pitch forks. What’s happened to this ogre’s roar?
Longing for the days when he felt like a “real ogre”, Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumplestiltskin.
Shrek suddenly finds himself in a in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumplestiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it’s up to Shrek to undo all he’s done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love. ”
Doesn’t sound that interesting but let’s wait for May 21st 2010 to judge. There were rumors that Tom Cruise – You know, that guy who jumped on Oprah’s couch – will voice a villain. Probably Rumplestiltskin. No information about Shrek 5 has been released yet.
We will also get to know more about Puss in the spin off Puss In Boots (2010). Who wants to bet on a Donkey spin off?
