Should You Write Your Novel in Thirty Days?
November 15th 2008 01:14
It took God over 1600 years to write the Bible! Of course, God wasn't your average writer. So, let's look at how long it takes your "average" writer to write a novel.
It took Margaret Mitchell ten years to write "Gone With the Wind".
It took J.K. Rowling five years to write the first Harry Potter book.
It takes Stephen King about three months to write a book.
How long does it take Nora Roberts to write a book?
"As long as it takes, " she replies.
I'm with Nora on this matter. NaNoWriMo is motivating, sure!! But, don't be afraid to slow your pace. There's a reason why Nora Roberts books (and the Bible) sell. They were well-thought out, not lazily thrown together.
