Shelter (2007)

In writer/director Jonah Marlowitz' feature film Shelter, Zach (Trevor Wright) is a young man torn by his desires to fulfill his dream, and to support his ailing father, sister and nephew. Unable to leave his family to their own devices, Zach find himself trapped in a world he didn't chose.
Into this world comes Shaun (Brad Rowe), a successful writer and elder brother to Zach's best friend Gabe (Ross Thomas). The two resume an easy friendship based around their mutual love of surfing, and the closested Zach finds himself spending more and more time with the out Shaun.
A night together talking leads to a tentative first kiss, and Zach finds himself in the position of falling in love with this best friends brother. Zach's sister Jeanne (Tina Holmes) warns her brother about Shaun and advises him that she doesn't want that sort of person around her son.
Evenutally admitting to himself that he loves Shaun, Zach returns to Shaun's house and the two friends become a couple.
The course of true love is never easy and the process of Zach's coming out and inheriting a newphew along the way makes the journey a bumpy one.
This is a wonderful, life affirming film that I think anyone, no matter their sexuality could enjoy. The films stars make the most of this romantic drama and the final scene in the film was absolutely lovely.
In Shaun, Zach finds a shelter from the life he has experienced up to then and a support that allows him to reach for his dreams. I found this a very easy film to watch and the sex scenes contained in it were extremely gentle. There was no "in your face" attitude, it was all handled with a deft hand and discerning eye.
Star of the film Trevor Wright won two awards for his star making turn as Zach and the film is considered by many to be a modern day classic. Shelter is easy to watch, easy to enjoy and leaves you with a sense that love, no matter who it is between is the only thing that matters.

Great list. I reviewed Latter Days on one of my other blogs Film Mage. I wish I'd thought to start a new blog with that one. I absolutely loved that moie, and cried like a baby at the end lol.
Beautiful Thing is another one that is really special to me. I actually saw it live on stage during the Mardi Gras festival years ago when I still in the closet and by the time I left the theatre I was out. It's one of those stories that is just magical.
