Sex, Cashmere and Lipstick...what's up?

So as an educated black woman from Detroit, that's been on a few trips to popular American cities I have to contest television.
Well, not necessarily television, but the programs that it boasts; sitcoms. Now, I understand that sitcoms aren't like the news, they don't have to be fair and equal, depicting both candidates in an fair light. On the contrary, this seasons sitcoms have taken demographic depravity to a new level. They have cut out the middle man and the minority. There is no guessing or "leaving of anything" to the imagination. If they want to talk about sex, there you go, and there is no getting away from a full "blown" hard "on" conversation between four raunchy (yet extremely successful" white women about sex with multiple partners. It surprises me when I see sitcoms based on the success of a clan of female friends, and all they seem to talk about is (1) their men, and (2)ruining the women that try to get their men.
Shows like Sex and the City, Cashmere Mafia and Lipstick Jungle, threaten our eyes with bold couture inspired wardrobes, high-paying careers, drinks and dates with magnificent men, but they lack substance. What are we getting from these shows? Other than the realization that your particular wardrobe has MUCH to be desired. The characters never seem to learn from their mistakes, they chat and chat and chat and what? Nothing. The only way that they can stop chatting is when they have sex. Weird? When was the last time you were giving someone a piece of your mind and all of a sudden, who ever they were, they kissed you, smack on the mouth? I don't know about you but I would dial the Assault Hotline as soon as possible.
And then there are "reality" shows. But whose reality are these people living in? I have responsibilities, and although I am not in the public eye, I think my image and reputation are very important to me and my future. There is no possible way I would be caught watching, let alone auditioning for, shows like Flavor Of Love or Rock of Love or any kind of "Find-Love-In-Front-of- the-Whole-World" show. Where did the trivia shows go? Shows where you won money for knowing answers to relevant questions, instead you can win millions of dollars for letting everyone know that if you had the chance to sleep with someone, you'd actually do it, despite of the fact that you're married with children.
Bear with me, I'm going to end this pretty soon. I love television, its a portal to the outside world, I can go anywhere I want when I turn on the tube. The Travel, Food, and News networks are iconic and informational. But there is no representation of my kind. BET is basically garbage aimed at adding to the delinquency of African American adolescents. MTV promotes bad body images of young white girls who salivate over being as petite (and starved) as their VJays. And I can't even touch on VH1, Bravo, or Style network. What do you think...more to come later.
