______ words for word and Scripture.
Grapha: (Graphite) Written word
Rayma: Word Spoken and the reference the scriptures
Logus: (Essence) Essence of the Word which is also Christ. The Logus took on flesh… John 1:14
A. All Scripture is God breathed and without __________
John 10:35 (NIV) If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came--and the Scripture cannot be broken--
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Peter 3:15-16 (NIV) …just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
ERROR!
1 Corinthians 1:16 (NIV) (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don't remember if I baptized anyone else.)
Answer: God uses us in our human capacity, just as he did the Apostles. That why there is also a sermon on the Mount & Plain. Depends on where you are standing when you write it.
B. INTERPREATATION: Proper use of:
Grammatical Greek: Koine/ Hebrew
Literal
Tradition
Textually: In the sentence & elsewhere
Metaphorically
Paradoxical…we let them remain if we can’t understand them.
Prescriptive
Descriptive: Cultural
Sin
Law
Commands
Commandments
Keep our interpretation balanced. Do not push anything too hard one direction or the other.
“Knowledge of the text & conviction led by the Holy Spirit, enhanced and supported by history and tradition, held accountable to the totality of scripture.”
A = B = C therefore A = ________
What is NOT Lutheran?
RICK WARREN
“First is that in any single translation nuances and shades of meaning can be missed, so it is always helpful to compare translations.” He misused Scripture several times in his book!
Which is better, another view or the original and application of interpretation?
Old Theology not Lutheran”: “What the Scriptures teach of themselves is not authoritative for you, but only that is authoritative which we, according to the impression which scripture makes upon us, regard as the divine truth.”

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) LOGUS
12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
1 Peter 1:23-25 (NIV) LOGUS & RAYMA
23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the word that was preached to you.
and the saying of the Lord doth remain--to the age; and this is the saying that was proclaimed good news to you. -Young’s Literal…no “but” which ties the first phrase to the second
but the rayma of the lord remains to the age. --Greek
Warren… ABOUT MAN (DISAGREE)
Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like him in character. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin." This attitude separates man from God.
Warren…ABOUT SALVATION (DISAGREE)
Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works – only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8, 9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1
GOD…ABOUT MAN Genesis 8:21 (NIV) … "Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood…
God…ABOUT SALVATION Romans 5:10 (NIV) For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
Receive: “Lambano” John 1:10-13
Confession /Profession: Romans 10:9-10

1 John 1:8-10 (NIV)
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
Romans 10:9-10 (NIV)
9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Confess: Homo-Legumina (One speak, Agree, welcome, not ask)
Profess: Ep- aggelos (Upon message i.e. angels)
1 Timothy 2:10 (NIV)
10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
“Confession is agreeing with what Christ has said, and said about us. Profession is to announce as the angels did at His birth!”
Luther: Only Scripture
Only Grace
Only Jesus
Only to the glory of God
Scripture is without error
Scripture interprets scripture
Scripture is the norm for life
Luther did not reform Scripture, he reformed the church and returned to scripture!!

Other Paradoxes
Grace/works: Romans 11:5-6 So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace. Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- James 2:22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. James 2:24 You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.
Faith and works go hand in hand. Faith will produce works if you have faith. James was written to lazy Jewish converts and Romans to Roman Christians.
Predestination: 1 Timothy 2:3-4 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. Ephesians 1:11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,
God predestines everyone, but some reject that free gift. “God loved the world…”. “Once an for all…”
Local and Omni Presence: Hebrews 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Matthew 28:20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Colossians 1:16-17 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
God can be everywhere and anywhere he wants and is not limited to heaven. His earthly body is in heaven and he can come and go as he pleases. Just as a flame can be separated and yet remains the same!
