Season of Chills
May 25th 2010 06:38
In the northern hemisphere summer is on the way
But in this land down under winter's cold holds sway.
Frosty mornings , grass so crisp and white,
Cloudless skies, sunshine weak but bright.
A gentle breeze comes from way down south,
Bringing chilly air from Antarctic's mouth.
I wrap my coat in closer, deny the freezing air
Then I wish for spring, so sunny, warm and fair.
Frosty mornings won't last long, soon there will be rain,
To add a dripping nose to my frozen fingers pain.
Runny nose, red freezing ears, cold and soaking wet;
I wonder just how miserable this wintry cold will get.
The wood is all stacked nicely now; the fire is alight,
The house will warm quite quickly, inside is looking bright.
My computer doesn't care if it's freezing cold or hot
The hero in my novel thinks I'm writing when I'm not.
So I guess my time would be so much better spent
Writing out the story showing where that hero went.
But my frozen fingers tell me he must wait a little while
Til my frozen face at least can raise a simple smile.
I must be getting old, I think, for not so long ago
I worked out in that freezing stuff, flitting to and fro.
But there is now no need to confront the elements,
I'm relaxing on the lounge, snug, warm and content
