School Trash

With most students entering their second half of the year it's important to remind ourselves of how we can reduce our waste at school. In one week, the average person throws away almost 40 pounds of garbage! Packaging makes up a significant portion of this waste.
What can you do? Here's a few tips:
1) Pack a no-waste lunch by using reusable containers and cloth napkins. Or, ask your school about reusable materials like trays and silverware!
2) Carry reusable supplies like refillable pens and pencils. Buy sturdy notebooks, binders, folders and backpacks to reduce the chance of wearing out early.
3) Use both sides of every sheet of paper! This is an easy one; turn your notes into scratch paper if you don't need them anymore.
4) Help your school reduce the amount of unsolicited mail it receives.
These simple steps can reduce the amount of waste produced across the country, and the world. Remember: tips only go so far, get creative and come up with some more!
