Save Yourself Time and Effort Doing These Things

February 18th 2012 03:37
Here are some tips on how to save yourself some time, effort and stress... and possibly even save yourself some money along the way.

1. Own up - 'fess up.
People who know me are aware that I am up front, honest and tell it "like I see it". No embellishment, no making the story more or less of what it was. There is no blame game, no victim-mentality...
If I do something wrong, my own moral and social compass is pretty sensitive and fully functional. So, I am 99% likely to stand up, put my hand up and say, "I did it."
Equally, if I am INNOCENT of things I am being accused of, I am QUICK to stand up and say, "hang on a minute. Get your facts straight, and know for certain that if I say I didn't do it, 99% sure I didn't do it" (unless I just straight out completely forgot).

Lesson: I get nothing out of lying or bull-shitting or embellishing. I am not weak and I don't fear trouble. So, I don't try to lie my way out of it to protect me, and you shouldn't either.
It takes too much time and effort to live a life of fabrication and pretence.
It requires you to expend energies on things only you are worried about.
If people judge you poorly because you have stopped being pretentious, then your lesson is complete and you can move on. It has become their lesson now.

If you are in business especially, come clean. It's time to 'fess up and be honest about the "stuff" going on OUT there and deep inside.
You'll save time and effort and probably make money discovering the simplicity of being up front about things from the start.

2. Find a mirror, now!!!

There is nothing like a good dose of facing up to your inner demons. Look in the mirror BEFORE you look to others, and if you're intent on finding someone to blame, take a step back and just check your birth certificate. Is your name Ms Perfect? Mr Right-All-The-Time? Mrs Never-Wrong?

I have been fortunate to have been exposed to - and to have endured - some of life's cruelties and the beauty in it is the strength and courage I've found in myself to stand tall, accept my flaws (and often point them out to others), and dig deep into my own mental operations to go on a demonic hunt.
I've stood in front of the mirror - literally - and had the conversation with my inner demons and learned a thing or two about myself.
In that same mirror, I have also learned to recognise my own inner magic, the innate "good" that I am, and I love sharing that part of myself - giving that part of me to every conversation.

Lesson: Get to know the real you as part of your life journey. Loosen up, don't hold rigidly to your past, to your idea of yourself and your idea of how the world and the people in it "ought to be".

If you're in business, breathe in and out deeply and then just simply let go of being blind to your imperfections. Invite them in, get to know them and realise you are not owned by them. You're bound to be at fault some times, and to make mistakes. If you can look in the mirror, see you've probably got it wrong, commit to getting it right, and can be humble about it, your business will flow with you and grow and develop with the changes you make within yourself.

3. Be AUTHENTIC.
This is not the same as not bullshitting.
It is not the same as accepting your flaws.
Being authentic is about honouring the truth that is universally human, and indelibly etched in your soul. Authenticity speaks through actions, and tells the world who you are by how you are. When you are authentic you lose the urge for it to be "all about me"; you become interested in the stories and lives of those around you; your voice is not the only one heard in conversations... because you know the importance of letting others be listened to, and you turn to your inner strength to help others discover theirs.

When you act from authenticity you become stronger, and more genuine, more of a leader and one who can be followed by those who seek a strong genuine leader to follow. It is the ultimate power of attraction.

Lesson: Authenticity is about discovering the inner truth of your being. You know you have it and are "it" when you can observe without needing to be centre of attention, when you can see weakness in those around you and have no need to control it, and when you can feel great empathy for those around you without need to judge. Giving is the greatest gift shared by those who are authentic.

In business, be authentic. Your customers will be magnetically drawn to you and your staff will respect you and honour you and do almost anything to help you. Imagine how much time and effort you could save by simply standing in truth and focusing on delivering the essence of leadership.

Summary:
Pull the plug on bullshit and lies.
Stand tall and be accountable.
Take responsibility.
Make it your job to learn who you are and how you are.
Focus on unlocking the door to your own inner wisdom.
Be truthful, sensitive, and offer guidance.
Be Authentic.

These qualities will serve you, save you time and effort, and will energise you and make your magnetic human qualities shine and attract powerful possibilities into your world - personally and in business.
