top-ranked Kentucky at LSU: The top team in the land traveling to Baton Rouge for a key conference game in the SEC. LSU(12-8) has just two wins in conference, and are coming off losses to Florida and Mississippi State. The Tigers are led by center Justin Hamilton who averages 14 points and eight rebounds per game. The Tigers are not known to score much points, and this will be a problem against Kentucky(20-1). The Wildcats are stacked from top to bottom. Kentucky cruises.
10th-ranked Georgetown at Pittsburgh: The Pitt Panthers are having a down year of sorts. They are used to being amongst the top of the Big East. Not this year as the team has struggled to a 12-9 record with a 1-7 in conference mark. Pitt lost eight straight before beating Providence on Wednesday. Ashton Gibbs leads the way with 16 points per contest. Georgetown(16-3) seem to be a team to reckon with, though they still have issues with consistently scoring points. If Gibbs can catch fire then watch for an upset. I am going with Pitt.
16th-ranked Mississippi State at 13th-ranked Florida: The lone game of the day with teams ranked opposing one another. Mississippi State(17-4) sport a balanced inside-outside scoring attack with Arnett Moultrie averaging 17 points in the middle and Dee Bost adding 16 on the outside. Florida(16-4) is a talented squad with a plethora of guys who can score. The team is keyed by Kenny Boynton who scores 18 points per game. Bost and Boynton will face off in a fierce point guard battle. Look for the host Gators to win.
5th-ranked Kansas at Iowa State: Another game where an upset can occur. Iowa State(14-6) is a team searching for that huge win on the season. A win over Kansas would qualify. The Cyclones lost an earlier meeting to Kansas in Lawrence by nine points. Kansas thanks to a hot-shooting night from Tyshon Taylor was able to pull away in the end. Expect more of the same with an upset occuring as Iowa State earns the win.
And a Sunday game:
Oregon State at Oregon: The first of two civil wars in men's basketball between these two rivals. Oregon(15-5) and Oregon State(13-7) have proven to be teams to watch so far on the season. The Ducks are currently three games ahead of the Beavers in the PAC-12 standings. Oregon is led by EJ Singler who averages 13 points per game and five rebounds. The Beavers have one of the leagues top players in Jared Cunningham. The swingman is something else as teams have struggled to stop him. Cunningham averages 18 points per game. This Beavers team is fifth in the country in points scored at 82 points per game. Oregon trails at a paltry 69 points per contest. So this game comes down to what style of play wins over, Oregon or Oregon State's. Am banking on the Ducks to pull a squeaker out as Oregon State has struggled winning on the road this year. When the two teams face off in Corvallis later on this year, expect a different outcome.
