Rocky's Running Diary - by edward

An U20 cross country and athletics runner, I took up club running two years ago for Randwick Botany Harriers, and train with Sean Williams' squad. Running plays a major part in my life; and this blog is a training diary in testament to that.

Current PBs:

800m - 2.12
1500m - 4.30
3k - 9.46
5k - 17.21
10k - 36.00
Queens Park 6k XC - 20.53
NSW AllSchools State XC 2005 U20s - 26th
National Cross Country 2006 U20s - 49th

Goals:

sub 2:10 800m (even sub 2:08)
4.25 1500m
sub 9.40 3k (even close to 9:30, idealy sub 9:30)
sub 17 min 5k (even 16.40)
sub 35:30 min 10k (even sub 35.00)
sub 80 min half

saturday 14th - queens park 6k

October 14th 2006 02:49
wow that sucked.
23:12 for 6k
missed the start cos i was in the toilet, so started on everyone's second lap, but even so did the whole race by my self.
unbelievable heat, 30 degrees or so.
felt pretty sore and tired in warm up, but thought i was powering along for the first lap until i saw the 7:12 split for first 2k. very slow, but felt like 6:45 or so.
after that it was all downhill, as i died a painful death.
i think the heat played a major part, because lots of people were a bit off in terms of times, but more than that i think the camp residue is still making my legs sore and heavy. james commented that he was also struggling; and i found others who didnt do the camp ran better. i hope thats it.

i also havent been sleeping well since the camp. and ive been feeling a bit off the last couple of days.
either im coming down with something, or im still feeling the camp and am tired.
in any case im not a my best and need to play it smart.
the immediate focus is the 3000m in one weeks time, and i need to be ready by then. the most important sessions, now that im doing shorter track stuff, are tuesday and thursday, so i need to be rested for them to get the full benefit. hammering myself when im clearly not ready isnt smart.
i think the quicker i get over whatever im carrying, the quicker i can get into some sharp training for the track on saturday. which means lots of sleep and taking it easier - because at the moment i dont feel into it, like im not getting the benefit from training hard, im just tiring myself out when i run.
i think a couple of more relaxed days with lots of sleep before tuesday should help, and then i can test it out and hopefully lay some good training down before saturday.

because the camp, or something, is obviously slowing me down and before i get over that i wont be able to train properly at the proper intensity.

good luck to the fitzroy falls guys, hope you do well in the heat!
