Blackheads: Pt 2

March 3rd 2008 09:43
Anyone who read my last post would see that I recommended Biore strips to get rid of them. One reader who made a comment on that post asked how or why this could happen. I wrote to the KAO brand company, and this was their response (copied and pasted EXACTLY):

Sarah:

We're pleased you're using our Biore Pore Strips and are sorry to learn of your disappointment.

In response to your inquiry, as you use the strips over time the results will be less visible since you will have less blackheads to remove over time. In addition, if you are using any salicylic acid products like those in our Biore line then you will see diminished blackheads and less visible results on the strip.

Also, your blackheads may be embedded under layers of skin cells which prevents the C Bond from binding to the plug. If there is no binding, the strip cannot pull the blackhead out. Use Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub for a few days to help dissolve the skin layer. Then try the strips again. It is also important to use a cleanser that does not leave behind a residual on the skin, like a moisturizing cleanser would. Otherwise the strip may have trouble adhering to the skin.

Hopefully this information has answered you questions.

Thank you for the opportunity to be of service.

Cordially,

Hope this helps guys. Thanks for the comment!

Blackheads: Who needs them?

February 26th 2008 02:14
When it comes to blackheads, there’s no need for deep clean, fast-action, expensive solutions – just add an extra step to your beauty regime once or twice a week. Like most girls / women, I saw one or two blackheads when I was about 17, did something to get rid of them and found 6 months later that the problem was only getting worse. There’s no point emphasising on the adage ‘prevention is better then cure’, cause let’s face it; even if it’s just one or two, we want them gone - pronto. I have two products that do just that.

Firstly, my favourite tried-and-tested blackhead remover is Biore nose strips. This Japanese-made product is absolutely amazing. It comes in normal and ‘ultra’, but like I have mentioned before, stick with the basic then move up a level (after about a year). As gross as this sounds, as soon as I used it for the first time and saw the blackheads come off on the strip, I was hooked. It’s easy enough to use too – just wet your (clean) nose, apply the strip (pressing and smoothing down), leave for 15 minutes and peel off. It may hurt a bit pulling off, but this is normal – it’s just those tough little suckers coming out! Just one word of caution though; I used this product weekly for about 6 months before it stopped having a significant effect on my blackheads. I suggest using it sparingly (like every 3 or 4 weeks) in conjunction with the below product.

Another great Aussie-made product is the Blackhead Cleanser from teen brand Clean & Clear (please don’t judge until you’ve tried it). It awesome cause you can use it daily and it has this new guarantee that you will see less blackheads in just 2 days (and you do!). It’s great that the product actually does what it says it does. My recommendation though is to use it on two consecutive days once a week. Any more then that is not only unnecessary but probably worse for the long-term. xoxo

Pimples: The Solution

February 18th 2008 08:45
OK, so you’ve woken up and there’s a big zit on your face. You see a rash of pimples you swear weren’t there yesterday. What do you do? I wish I could tell you I had a miracle solution, a 2-minute quick-fix that will get rid of your zit issues for life, but I don’t. I won’t tell you to stop eating chocolate, or to avoid certain foods, nor will I recommend some top-of-the-line treatment regime like Pro-Active. My personal, tried and tested recommendation is Benzac Ac. There are a number of reasons why I suggest this French-made product, but mostly I recommend it because it works. If you apply twice a day for about three days, you should see results. I do. Just follow the instructions on the label.

Unlike other pimple products, I found it didn’t dry out my skin and lets face it, when you see results, how could you not be happy? I recommended this to a guy friend once (about four years ago now) who had a persistent pimple problem. He had used so many products unsuccessfully that he had given up trying to get rid of them. About a month later my friends were complementing him on the clarity of his skin. He told us he had taken my advice and purchased Benzac; the girls were astounded.

Benzac (to my knowledge) is only sold in pharmacies and costs around $18. It comes in different strengths; I began on 2.5% and am now on 5%. If you have a bad pimple problem, start with 5% , but for those monthly breakouts (you know which ones I mean), 2.5% should be enough. It’s better to start on a smaller number, that way when it stops having an effect on your skin you can move up a level. I’m not doctor and these are just my suggestions based on experienced. If you have any doubts, please see your pharmacist. xoxo

Ok, so we all love our 8hr make-up that lasts all day, but have you ever come home, washed your face, toned and moisturised, only to find that 8hr eye liner has given you panda eyes? I know I have. One product I found that actually works is Garnier Soft Cleansing Milk, which you can use for your whole face. Just dab it on, leave for about 20 seconds and wipe away with a tissue. It’s that simple. The best thing about it is that it’s gentle enough to use for eye liner and doesn’t sting if you accidentally get some in you eye (I know, trust me, I’ve done this). Problem solved!

But what if you can’t get to the shops, or you need a simple solution from a product already sitting among your toiletries? Here are two solutions for you and I know you will love me for it! [ Click here to read more ]
