Part of our success as a species is an ability to adapt, and then rebalance, and find stasis. Our life is an episodic journey from event to event. But, this very basic fact is a great cause of irritation and strain for most of us. How can we remain personally calm and kind to others during this journey from change to change?

routine changing

January 27th 2010 11:28
Yes, yet again I have made a change or two in my regular routine, Despite not being a set routine that always turns out the same, it generally follows a basic pattern - with just a few asana being added or taken out depending on the weather, my sinus-health, and my time available. Since encountering freezing cold English winters however, I have made a couple of more long-term changes.

The main change is that the warm up exercises for my neck and eyes that generally come at the start of a routine now come at the very end. I begin as I did before, with Savasana and leg raises followed by shoulderstand. I then go into the desk pose/fish pose, roll over for locust and scorpion or the bow, and then stand up. I perform my version of the sun salutation prior to triangle and THEN do my seated pranayama/meditation/neck and eye exercises before a final Savasana

Blackcaps 2

January 27th 2010 11:22
After studying both the live creature and a few books on the bird, I have learned some facts concerning the blackcap. Hopefully, I shall also have some photos to share in a month or so, when I can get them off my camera and onto a computer that I have yet to purchase.

Blackcaps come from the same family as the warbler. They are circa 14cm in length and make their nest from dried grasses. Their nests are situated in brambles and similar shurbs with undergrowth

Blackcaps 1& photos to come

January 20th 2010 10:18
A female blackcap is almost a sparrow in way of its looks - however, that rusty red 'hat' makes it stand out as not a sparrow and worth further investigation. After swatting through 3 bird identification books, I finally found out that this is what I was seeing landing on the dead-looking tree in my father's front yard recently and nibbling a few tiny purple berries.

It took me a time to identify, as the male blackcap has a black 'hat' and was shown in all the pictures without its female counterpart. Eventually however, I was able to swat up on the bird. Sparrow-sized, it is now the subject of a few photos - when I can get a computer at home, I will share them with you

fieldfares

January 14th 2010 13:43
Like the redwings mentioned in my last post, fieldfares munch berries - particularly in cold icy and snowy weather. They also eat seeds and bugs when weather permits. These birds have black eyes and orange-tan feet. They are frequently seen in all but the hottest of months in southern England.

They enjoy woodland districts but will venture into gardens when the weather hides their usual food sources. For year-round observation, you should head to Eastern Europe. The bird measures approximately 10 inches in length and has a 5-10 year life span

Yes, she would simply have to take a pre-natal class and/or adapt the poses. It helps with relaxation as well as keeping fit during pregnancy and bonding with the baby.

Thank you. This is very interesting information. Do you refer to the totem symbology of the American Indians, or of a different culture? (That is the only culture I am aware of that has totem animals, but I am sure that many indiginous cultures must have something similar.)

We used to have a black-faced cuckoo-shrike that window-tapped for attention a few years ago. I think I must have gotten too engrossed in my reading or music and not heard its call sometimes, but it always wanted to make sure I knew it wanted a morsel of cheese!

I guess at least they have pictures... I would have to say that the 'wporst' covers are scrappy bits if discolored paper that's turning yellow and has no words or picture on - such as my olds' 78's! (These can be termed amusing, the yellowing paper sacks cannot, lol)

on Diagnosing Death

October 24th 2008 16:43
I guess it could be difficult to say when someone is dead - if you take into account the fact that differing religions classify death at different times. For example, some people say when the brain or heart ceases to function, one is dead, whereas other people consider death to be when the inner being has transferred into a rebirth...

I agree - my teen loves to sit in his room watching TV or on his PC - BUT, due to being a no-car household he has learned to walk and done so for most of his life. Once he got old enough, he would walk on his own and it was a great opportunity for some teenage timeout from family life... I am happier knowing he is hiking a mountain or the coastal trail than some things teens get up to!
He thinks nothing of a 30km hike, and out walks me, these days!
