Yoga Styles: Zen Yoga

November 6th 2009 16:04
Zen Yoga unites physical health, mental lucidity and spiritual peace. It works on both the body and the mind. Zen Yoga incorporates gentle stretching with Shanti Pranayama stemming from the philosophy of Qigong, movements of Tai Chi, and the internal serenity of Zen meditation.

Zen Yoga was created by Aaron Hoopes in 2002, and operates around the following ideas - slowing down, expanding your compassion, proper nutrition and exercise for the body, calming the mental activities, honoring your spirit and loving your inner YOU. Aaron Hoopes spent more than 20 years studying martial arts, Yoga and several Eastern healing traditions.

Lentils for lunch

November 6th 2009 15:23
I learned something new earlier this week - which birds do and do not eat cooked lentils. On the same day that I mentioned in my last post, the magpies completely ignored the lentils that were left over from my lunch. However, plenty of other birds investigated them.

In the end I got to witness a beautiful sight - all because I had cooked too many lentils…

A parent starling began to wolf down a few and then carry some one by one to a baby starling! After she had fed him a half dozen or so, she wandered off to look for other fodder - and then the baby went across to the pile of lentils and TRIED to pick a few up itself - but alas, it was not yet old enough and could not quite manage to get them in its mouth!

Having had a kookaburra visit us the next day, I have some kookaburra photos to share with you next week - but they are still stuck in my camera at the moment, as I have had a busy work week!

A pair of pies.

November 3rd 2009 16:28
Yesterday, I was just about to lay down for a rest after feeding the pigeons my leftover lentils and their seeds, when I heard a pair of magpies descend. Unfortunately, I have recently turned vegan and no longer buy cheese…

I felt so sad that I had no treats for them, as I had not baked any bread either until later that night. They both stepped up on the doorstep and stuck their beaks inside looking - they made sure I had seen them

Yoga Styles: Yin Yoga

November 2nd 2009 13:48
Yin Yoga is a reestablished ancient practice that enables participants to find greater ease when sitting for long periods in Lotus. Yin Yoga directs the gain deeper than muscular tissues. It targets the ligaments, bones, and joints that often miss out from other Yogic postures known as yang Yoga.

Yin yoga, is a Chinese style of Yoga akin to Hatha Yoga. The circa 35 passive Asanas connected to Yin Yoga may be held for up to twenty minutes each. Regular standing and balancing postures are not a standard part of the sequence. Muscle temperature is a predominant feature addressed within Yin Yoga. Muscles are less elastic when cold. This is why many people practice Yin Yoga early in the day

Yes, she would simply have to take a pre-natal class and/or adapt the poses. It helps with relaxation as well as keeping fit during pregnancy and bonding with the baby.

Thank you. This is very interesting information. Do you refer to the totem symbology of the American Indians, or of a different culture? (That is the only culture I am aware of that has totem animals, but I am sure that many indiginous cultures must have something similar.)

We used to have a black-faced cuckoo-shrike that window-tapped for attention a few years ago. I think I must have gotten too engrossed in my reading or music and not heard its call sometimes, but it always wanted to make sure I knew it wanted a morsel of cheese!

on The World's Worst Album Covers

November 4th 2008 03:12
I guess at least they have pictures... I would have to say that the 'wporst' covers are scrappy bits if discolored paper that's turning yellow and has no words or picture on - such as my olds' 78's! (These can be termed amusing, the yellowing paper sacks cannot, lol)

on Diagnosing Death

October 24th 2008 16:43
I guess it could be difficult to say when someone is dead - if you take into account the fact that differing religions classify death at different times. For example, some people say when the brain or heart ceases to function, one is dead, whereas other people consider death to be when the inner being has transferred into a rebirth...

I agree - my teen loves to sit in his room watching TV or on his PC - BUT, due to being a no-car household he has learned to walk and done so for most of his life. Once he got old enough, he would walk on his own and it was a great opportunity for some teenage timeout from family life... I am happier knowing he is hiking a mountain or the coastal trail than some things teens get up to!
He thinks nothing of a 30km hike, and out walks me, these days!
